During one of the intensive training sessions at the Oratory Odyssey Mentorship Bootcamp, Dr Felix Paul challenged a long-held belief about public speaking. According to him, effective oratory is not built on perfect grammar alone, but on the ability to connect with people.
Addressing the mentees, Dr Felix Paul explained that many aspiring speakers silence themselves because they believe their grammar is not strong enough. He noted that this mindset has held back countless voices with powerful ideas. He emphasized that audiences do not listen because a speaker sounds academic, but because the message is clear, relatable, and sincere.
He further stated that communication becomes impactful when speakers focus on understanding their audience and delivering their message with clarity and purpose. During practical sessions, he demonstrated how connection, not complexity, keeps people attentive, even in environments filled with distractions.
Dr Felix Paul reminded participants that grammar is a tool, not the foundation of influence. He stressed that when a speaker is confident in their message and intentional about connection, their words naturally find expression. He described true confidence as calm authority, not loudness, and effectiveness as being understood, not being impressive.
The session left participants with a powerful takeaway: public speaking is about making people feel included in your message. At Oratory Odyssey, this lesson was not only taught, it was practiced, reinforced, and lived.
