In June 2026, we return to Portugal for our next retreat.

A few days to slow down, reconnect with your body and reset your nervous system, away from constant noise, pressure and expectations.

This retreat is for those who feel tired in their brain and their body, who want to move, breathe, reflect and feel grounded again, not fixed, not pushed, just supported.

Through gentle somatic practices, reflection, rest and connection, we create space for regulation, clarity and real integration you can take back into daily life.

Portugal offers the rhythm we often forget, slower mornings, open space, ocean air and room to land.

If 2026 feels like a year you want to enter with more balance, presence and resilience, this retreat is for you.

Early interest is now open.

When you tell yourself to “calm down”, your body often cannot. Because regulation is not a command, it is a process.

You cannot talk your body into safety. You have to show it. Stress, anxiety and overwhelm live in the body first, not in thoughts. That is why calming down works better through action, not pressure.

If your body feels activated, try this instead:

🌿 Slow your breathing
Extend the exhale. This shows your brain that it is safe and helps your body shift out of stress mode.

👣 Move gently
Walking, stretching or rocking helps release stored tension and restores emotional balance.

🌞 Get light exposure
Natural daylight supports your internal rhythm, mood and energy regulation.

🤲 Ground through sensation
Feel your feet on the floor, touch something warm, notice pressure and textures around you.

🧠 Reduce input
Lower noise, screens and multitasking. Less stimulation gives your brain space to settle.

Regulation is about showing your body safety through small, supportive actions. Not telling it to calm down, but helping it feel safe enough to do so.

Save this video for moments when your body needs support, not pressure.

Therapy is not about fixing you or taking over your life. It is about support, reflection and learning how to face things yourself, with more awareness and less self judgment.

Sometimes that looks like insight. Sometimes it looks like trial and error. And sometimes it looks like your therapist quietly holding space while you figure it out in real time.

Growth is not always graceful, but you do not have to do it alone.

If you are navigating stress, burnout or emotional overwhelm, we are here to support you 💚.

Winter days are shorter, darker and colder, and your brain and body respond to that.

Low light, less movement and more time indoors can affect your mood, energy and nervous system regulation.
This is why having simple, supportive tools matters during winter.

🧰 Your Winter Toolbox

☀️ Get daylight in the morning, even when the sky is grey
🌿 Move gently, short walks are enough
🔥 Create warm, cozy rituals that help your body feel safe
🧘 Use breathwork or grounding to calm your nervous system
🤝 Stay connected, isolation increases stress

Winter does not mean something is wrong with you.
It means your system needs more care.

Counseling Amsterdam is here to support you through the winter months.

Speaking Dutch can feel stressful, even when you know the words.

Your heart races, your mind goes blank, and suddenly confidence disappears.
This is not a language problem.

It is what happens in your brain and body when you feel pressure, fear of judgment or the need to be perfect.
How to Overcome Speaking Anxiety is a practical webinar for expat women who want to feel more at ease when speaking Dutch.

🗓 Wednesday, Jan 28, 10:00–10:45 AM
📍The webinar takes place online, hosted via the platform.
This session is not about perfect Dutch.

Together, psychologist Jeannette Bolck from and Dutch teacher Anouk van der Linde from will help you understand why speaking anxiety happens and how to work with it, not against it.

You will learn how to calm your nervous system, reduce speaking stress and keep conversations flowing, even when you feel stuck.

It is about feeling safer, more confident and more connected while speaking.

Just 20 minutes of walking can already change how your brain works.

Research shows that a short, phone free walk helps to:
✅ Improve focus
✅ Clear mental noise
✅ Support sharper thinking and decision making

One study even found that students who walked for 20 minutes before a test performed better in reading, spelling and math.

This is not new wisdom. Steve Jobs intuitively used walking whenever he felt stuck. Many important conversations and ideas emerged while moving, not sitting.

From a nervous system perspective, this makes sense.
Walking gently regulates stress, supports brain body communication and creates space for clarity to return.

If your thoughts feel crowded or your focus is gone, try this today:
🚶🏻Leave your phone behind
🚶🏻Step outside
🚶🏻Walk for 20 minutes

Movement often brings what forcing never does.

January in Amsterdam can feel heavy on your brain and your body.

That is why we often recommend small, accessible tools that help you regulate stress and support your nervous system between sessions.

These mental health apps can support you in daily life:

🧘‍♀️ Insight Timer
Guided meditations and breathwork to calm your nervous system.
You can also find meditations by Jeannette and Louis from Counseling Amsterdam, focused on stress release and body based regulation.

📔 Belle Health
Track your mood and hormones, gain deeper insight into emotional patterns, and make daily support feel easier and more accessible.

🌿 Headspace
Short mindfulness practices that support focus, better sleep and emotional balance.

📝 Moodpress
A simple tool to track emotions, notice patterns and build self awareness over time.

🌊 Rootd
Grounding tools and breathing exercises to support you during anxiety or panic moments.

Apps can be a helpful support, but they do not replace therapy.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, dealing with burnout, anxiety or emotional fatigue, Counseling Amsterdam is here to support you.

Be bored on purpose.

Your brain is not designed to be constantly stimulated by scrolls, notifications and noise.

When there is no space to pause, your nervous system stays in alert mode and true rest never happens.

Boredom is not a problem.

It is a reset point for your brain and your body.
It supports creativity, emotional regulation and mental clarity.

If you feel overstimulated, anxious or mentally tired, practicing intentional boredom can help your nervous system settle and recover.

Try it today:
📱 Put your phone down.
🚶🏻Sit, walk or breathe without distraction for a few minutes.

Sometimes doing nothing is exactly what your brain needs.

2025 was a year of listening.

To the body.
To the brain.
To what happens when stress stays too long.

Through Women’s Circles, workshops, workplace sessions, retreats and meditations, we witnessed how powerful it is when people feel safe enough to slow down and reconnect.

As we close this year, we want to thank everyone who trusted Counseling Amsterdam with their presence, their stories and their nervous system.
2026 is already taking shape.

More grounding spaces in Amsterdam.
More education around burnout and emotional regulation.
More moments where you do not have to do it alone.

If you want to be part of what is coming next year, send us a message or reach out by email.

We would love to hear from you.

Which of these emotions are you feeling right now?

The end of the year often brings mixed emotions. Excitement, pressure, gratitude, overwhelm, nostalgia or simply tiredness in both your brain and your body.

Using an emotion wheel can help you name what is actually happening inside you, so you do not carry it alone or let it build into burnout.

When you can identify your emotion, your nervous system softens because it no longer needs to guess what you are feeling.

If your winter feels heavy or confusing, we are here to support you with grounded tools that help you reconnect with your body and your emotional balance.
