Voted as President-Elect of the World Glaucoma Association, Professor Fotis Topouzis, MD, PhD continues a lifelong journey of leadership and innovation in glaucoma care.

From founding one of Europe’s leading ophthalmology research labs in Thessaloniki, to spearheading landmark projects like the Thessaloniki Eye Study and Eureye Study, his work has shaped global understanding of glaucoma.

With 170+ publications, 82,000+ citations, and more than 500 lectures delivered worldwide, Professor Topouzis has inspired colleagues and mentored the next generation of ophthalmologists.

As he prepares to begin his WGA presidency in 2026, we celebrate a visionary leader driving progress for the global glaucoma community.

Meet Prof. Dr. Verena Prokosch! 👋

Prof. Dr. Verena Prokosch is a leading glaucoma specialist and Professor of Glaucoma Diseases at the University Hospital Cologne. She heads the Experimental Glaucoma Research Group, focusing on both conservative and surgical glaucoma therapies.

Her contributions include:

🔬 Pioneering research in glaucoma surgery, including trabeculectomy, Excimer laser trabeculotomy, and MIGS procedures.
📚 Serving as an academic editor and contributing to scientific literature on glaucoma management.
