From 15 to 19 June 2026, Fusion for Energy will be hosting a summer school at their headquarters in Barcelona. This summer school is intended for EU citizens attending PhD or Master courses in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Economy or Political Sciences.

The program is designed to provide a solid foundation in the multidisciplinary field of energy studies. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics, beginning with energy fundamentals and the operation of electrical grids, extending to the study of diverse energy sources, their environmental impact and the geopolitics of energy. The school will also explore the role of communication, the influence of policies and regulations, and the integration of new technologies that are shaping the global energy landscape. The objective is to equip participants with the knowledge and analytical tools necessary to understand the complexity of today’s energy challenges, while preparing them to contribute effectively to the sustainable transition of our societies. Participants are also able to receive a certificate of attendance.

Registrations are open until 31 March, and for more information you can send an email to EnergySchool@f4e.europa.eu or view the flyer with all information here:https://www.iter.org/sites/default/files/media/2026-01/f4e_energy_school_flyer.pdf

From 3 to 5 February, FuseNet was pleased to attend the binding.energy conference in Aachen, Germany. The conference started with a day filled with interesting talks concerning global perspectives and the nuclear infrastructure of tomorrow. Topics like the energy transition, the public opinion on nuclear energy and how we can pave the way for nuclear energy to become competitive in the energy sector were covered.

During the next days, topics included the use of AI and its possibility to assist in nuclear energy research, fission reactor designs, safety regulations and the progress of the ITER, as well as bridging the worlds of fission and fusion. Multiple companies presented their unique designs for a nuclear fusion power plant and FuseNet got the chance to present their network to the institutes and industry.

As a media partner of the event, we want to thank John Kettler and the binding.energy conference for this successful partnership. Special thanks go to ITER for hosting us at their exhibition booth.
During this three-day conference, we got the chance to connect with some wonderful people and companies within fusion!

We would like to announce that we have made some necessary updates to the contents of Module 5 of our education materials!

The original version was released in 2022, but since then a lot has changed not only in the world of fusion, but also in the world of energy production as a whole. The module now includes updated figures and statistics showing the current energy situation. In addition to this we have expanded the explanation on availability and capacity factor, and more importantly, now include the role that AI has on the energy market. If you or someone you know might be interested in translating the new module 5 to your language, please contact us at feo@fusenet.eu!

You can find this module in the educational materials browser on our website.

We would like to announce that the recordings of the European Teacher Day 2025 are now live on our YouTube channel!

The goal of the European Fusion Teacher Day was to introduce nuclear fusion to secondary school teachers throughout Europe, to discuss teaching nuclear fusion to secondary school students and to create enthusiasm for the field of fusion at the secondary education level.

The event featured multiple domestic sessions in local languages with lectures by fusion experts on current fusion research. Local sessions were organised in Bulgarian, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Ukrainian.

Lastly, the event offered a European Session in which FuseNet educational materials were presented and keynote speakers from the international fusion community gave an inside look into the largest scientific collaboration in the world. This year's European Session included an EPFL Tokamak Tour and a virtual tour of ITER.

All talks from this year and previous years can be found on our Youtube channel. The talks from this event can be viewed via the following link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLqfABf9TMOg8_-OPInlddoTZugiCrBjS

We are happy to announce that the German translation of Module 3 of our educational materials is now available on our website!

This module is part of our series of educational materials for secondary schools. In this module, Plasma Control, students learn about the basics of control theory and see how this is used in fusion. Starting from the simple example of a home thermostat, we see how measurements and actuators can be used to control physical quantities. We see how this translates to fusion, by considering the basics of different plasma heating methods. The module concludes by discussing diagnostic techniques.

You can find this module in our educational materials browser: https://fusenet.eu/education/material.

FuseNet 15-year Anniversary!

Today, on 10 December, FuseNet marks 15 years of coordinating and supporting European fusion education. Founded in 2010, FuseNet was established to create a platform for coordination of fusion education activities across Europe, bringing together the academic, research, and industry communities to build the fusion workforce of tomorrow.

15 Years of Growth:
Since its foundation, FuseNet has grown to 60+ member institutions across Europe, connecting universities, research centers, and industry partners. We have supported hundreds of Master students via our mobility schemes and created multiple educational events and initiatives to advance fusion education and workforce development.

November Celebration at ITER:
We celebrated this milestone in November at ITER with the fusion community. The event brought together General Assembly members, board members, students, and representatives from universities, research centers, and industry. Highlights included the ITER worksite tour, FuseNet over the Years discussion panel, and presentations on current FuseNet activities. The day concluded with networking and dinner at a Château.

Moving Forward:
FuseNet continues supporting fusion education, student mobility, and building the next generation of fusion professionals. Together, we are shaping the future of fusion energy in Europe.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this exciting journey.

Do you want to be more involved in the promotion of fusion education in Europe? Do you have ideas on how to make the fusion scientific community bigger and more inclusive? Do you want to give input as a student to FuseNet? Then join the FuseNet Student Council!

To fit the FuseNet activities and strategy to the needs of students, FuseNet set up the Student Council: a separate advisory body in which Master and PhD students from member institutions across Europe convene and provide input to the Board of Governors. Members of the Student Council take part in all the Work Packages that FuseNet works on, and they are responsible for organizing the Master Event, a remote event that gathers Master students from all over Europe.

As part of its mission, the Student Council aims to help build a stronger, more inclusive, and better-connected fusion research community across Europe. Master students play a key role in this effort, and we strongly encourage them to apply.

The SCF convenes predominantly online but also holds at least one live meeting each year at the FuseNet PhD Event. This is also a great opportunity to build a strong network with peers and establish valuable connections for your future career—both in academia and industry.

Positions at the FuseNet Student Council are now open. Current Master and PhD students affiliated to a FuseNet member institution are welcome to apply. A Student Council member term is 1 year with the possibility of a 1-year extension.

If you are interested, please send a motivation letter (max. 300 words) and your CV to student.council@fusenet.eu before 9 January 2026.

Additional criteria regarding geographical distribution, the ratio between Master and Doctoral students, and gender diversity will be considered to help shape a more representative and inclusive Council.
