We are proud to present to you, the new product design of IMPALA 1.0, being launched into clinical testing this quartile in the IMPALA study in two main hospitals in Malawi! 🎉

After we launched our crowdfunding campaign you might have noticed something new in our video, it was green or white ( yes we have options, but we prefer green 😉), it’s bold and has very high expectations from everyone in our team, so we believe it’s time to present you the long awaited IMPALA 1.0. But don’t fool yourself, this is not just a pretty “face”. 😍

Designed in collaboration with Mango studios we couldn’t be happier about the outcome. With great power comes great responsibilities, this new system counts on a complete and integrated vital signs sensing, monitoring and visualisation system in which GOAL 3 provides all elements needed for the hospital to use the system successfully. IMPALA is designed to be used either as a standalone system, or on-premise connected system.

As GOAL 3 we are innovating our monitoring device and the design makes it more accessible and more sustainable in hospitals in Low- and Middle Income Countries. Our design is optimized for handling, usability, durability, and robustness. It connects to a tablet and a server, making the perfect small ecosystem for seamless data capturing, data transfer, and data control. 📈

Do you like our new design, want to know more about it and support us in reaching every corner of the globe with this highly needed technology? Please visit our crowdfunding campaign website at: https://www.symbid.nl/projects/202

The start of a new phase for GOAL 3! ☀️ It’s time for change and you are invited to join our upcoming crowdfunding investment round. ✌️

Last couple of weeks, we kicked off the GOAL 3 - “It’s Time For Change” campaign with the launch of our vision video and our manifesto. It was amazing to see, hear, and read how many people were touched by the video and joined our mission. 🎯

Following this campaign, we are working on the next step, which is securing the last hurdle of funding needed to go to market with the IMPALA monitoring system by the end of this year. From today onwards this investment round is kicked off in a private phase at SYMBID and will be made public next week with quite a big story to tell (P.S. our inner circle knows). 😊

If you are interested in learning more about this investment opportunity, this campaign, and the amazing news we have to share, please reach out to us by commenting, sending a personal message to a GOAL 3 member or subscribing to our newsletter via: https://goal3.org/itstimeforchange/

We believe that It’s Time For Change - and you are invited to join us! ✊

Today we launch our campaign to spread awareness for the fact that more than 6 million children are dying every year, while the majority of these children could be saved by interventions costing less than 10$. Together with a talented Dutch and Malawian crew, we made a video to express the struggle of healthcare in low resource settings. 🏥

As GOAL 3, we believe that this current situation is unacceptable and we believe that it’s time for action! 🚨 Luckily there are many people who feel the same. But a lot more people and a lot more action are needed to make a change. That is why we have decided to start this campaign. By raising awareness we aim to inspire and motivate people, organizations and initiatives to work together on making the world a better place. Since together we can be an unstoppable force for good. It’s time for a change! 🎯

We have listed down 9 bullet points in a manifesto, to call for concrete action and spread the word. Join us in raising awareness, calling out for action, and using this action to make a change. ✊

See the video and read, sign, and share the manifesto from here: https://goal3.org/itstimeforchange/

Today marks the world birth defects day!📣

Every year, an estimated 8 million babies, 6% of all infants are born with a birth defect around the world, with over 300,000 of them dying within the first 28 days of life due to complications. Heart problems, neural tube anomalies, and Down syndrome are the most prevalent and severe.🆘

Vaccinations, folic acid supplements, and proper prenatal care can help avoid some congenital defects.

We at GOAL 3 are working to make a positive change in these numbers each day and make pregnancy and childbirth a healthier and safer environment, especially in places where it is needed most. This is why we support world birth defects day and ask others to join.📊

Amazing news from Rwanda, we have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with the Rwanda Paediatric Association! 📝

For the last months, after GOAL 3 reached out to the Paediatric Association of Rwanda to join forces towards our common mission and co-develop the IMPALA system, we’ve been heavily engaged and enthusiastic about using their clinical expertise and knowledge of paediatric challenges in Rwanda to further. This engagement has progressed to a proposal since last week, and we'll leave you with a brief introduction to our newest partner. 💍

Rwanda Paediatric Association (RPA) is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to promote increased preventive, curative, palliative, and rehabilitative paediatric services, as well as to improve and share evidence-based knowledge to improve policies and strategies for improved paediatric care. 👶

As you may be aware, Millions of children die each year and over 50% of all paediatric deaths and more than 60% of all neonatal deaths worldwide can be prevented through improved quality of healthcare with this in mind, the RPA and the Rwandan Ministry of Health, made some an amazing progress in reducing under-5 mortality from 221 deaths per thousand in 1970 to 34 deaths per thousand in 2019.📉 Still, especially in hospitals settings, many challenges in providing care arise and more progress can be made.

Therefore, the RPA and GOAL 3 will collaborate to develop the IMPALA monitoring system to more effectively and efficiently assess the severity of illness in hospitalised children. This allows for earlier detection of critical illness, improved risk stratification, prioritisation, and resource allocation to reduce mortality and give health workers a better chance of saving children’s lives.

We are very excited about this partnership and will make the most of it to get one step closer to our goal! 🎯

Today marks the last day of successful Pregnancy Awareness Week in South Africa, yet more needs to be done! 📣

Pregnancy Awareness Week's major purpose is to reduce the number of pregnancy-related deaths or complications for both the mother and the foetus/baby by improving prenatal education and exposing essential concerns that promote a healthy pregnancy and safe parenthood.

Antenatal care for pregnant mothers should be started as soon as feasible, preferably during the first trimester. It is essential for a healthy pregnancy, and adopting a proactive approach will reap rewards such as:

🎯 The ability to recognize diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, anaemia, and infections.

🏥 Dangerous symptoms could be detected early in the pregnancy and after the baby is born.

👶 Planning for labour and delivery, as well as a backup plan.

🍲 Proper nutrition and hygienic conditions.

👪 Details about the father's and family's responsibilities.

The South African Pregnancy Awareness Week is relevant to all countries with limited access to healthcare, to advocate for the right attention to antenatal care. At GOAL 3, we acknowledge the importance of tackling child mortality from the first stages of pregnancy onwards and are keen to connect solutions to face the challenges in antenatal care!

WE ALL HEALTH.

Did you know that su***de rates in Malawi are rising? 📈

In Malawi, many young people suffer in silence, leading to these rising su***de rates. The underlying problems are fear of judgement and a shortage of adequate mental healthcare.

iMind, a group of young Malawians who have all dealt with mental illness, was created to tackle the problem and connect with people suffering from mental health. The association encourages people to speak up by lowering the bar for talking about mental health, providing a helpline to do so, and offering mental health care for the people who need it.

At GOAL 3, we care deeply about mental health and obviously, Malawi. We also see how mental health is affected worldwide during these times of pandemic. For us internally this means; creating a culture where focus on mental health is encouraged and people are never judged for taking some time off.

Watch this video and support this amazing creation by Dirk Zekveld and his camera crew Tavwana Chirwa in collaboration with iMind.

Great work Dirk Zekveld! 👏

This week we bring you with a hard pill💊 to swallow, from one side we show you our progress in our objective to make health accessible to everyone and on the other side, there is some devastating news we can’t control.😥

Our founders Bart and Niek traveled to Malawi for the first physical annual conference of the IMPALA consortium in the last week of November. The purpose of the conference was to ensure that we were all working towards the same goal of establishing a predictive monitoring system that could be adopted in Malawian hospitals in the long run.🏃

We had many intensive workshops, presentations, and close interactions with stakeholders such as the ministry of health, the chief of nursing, and hospital directors throughout this three-day meeting. As a result, we were able to ensure alignment with all of our collaborators as well as stakeholders in terms of the study's aims and methodology. It was incredible to witness these people's commitment, enthusiasm, and excitement all in one place. This clears the way for the clinical trial to begin in July 2022. Something we're quite excited about. 💯

Although we as GOAL 3 made a few steps forward, a disaster hit following a cyclone, floods started in Malawi during the last week of January killing at least 32 people and leaving an estimated 50,000 families homeless. There are also casualties being reported in Madagascar, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

We as GOAL 3 are deeply saddened by this news as the location holds a special place within the group and our thoughts are with the victims. ❤️

We cannot recommend enough to support the countries during this time in any way possible.
