A small collection of wonderful memories made in January. The returning Arctic sun, powerful Northern Lights so strong that the sky was colored in red, all the wildlife experiences both out at sea 🐋 and dogsledding though the pine forest in the Reisa Valley, all the heavy snow storms providing amazing snow and world class skiing. When all lights align! 🙌🏻 Sun, Moon and Auroras. Yesterday, we witnessed something very special - we had it all in one day. It began with a gift we wait for through the long polar night winter - the return of the sun. Not up for long - but long enough to hvorvidt hope and to tell us that the sun season has now started. A promise kept - a welcome return.

As the sun dipped down below the horizon, its departure was not an end, but a transformation, the stage was handed over to the moon🌖, rising over the summit of Storehaugen, our home mountain.

And then, as if the universe itself decided to join the celebration, the grand finale began. The sky erupted. Swirls of emerald danced above the fjord, at a scale, intensity and beauty that’s almost hard to take in. All lights aligned - in the same day - in the same place, and we were there ♥️.

Ohh January🙏🏻. We are filled with gratitude for the exceptional snow conditions, the unwavering dedication of our lodge team, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared with our guests.

And the auroras - what to say? With the solar maximum, we’ve been treated to celestial displays unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed. It feels like nature itself is celebrating with us.

Now, as we eagerly await the beginning of our ski season - another magical time of year - we feel inspired and profoundly thankful. Here follows a little selection of pictures from January.. hard to choose really, as its so many good ones😅.

This week I’ve been 3 times to the top of our home mountain, Storehaugen (1142m). I have enjoyed every single time. Amazing weather (a bit cold on the top) and spectacular light. With great company from Leo, I am moving into getting touring fit for our ski season to start, end of Feb. Investing time in our own health hopefully means time saved from illness.

Of all life’s luxuries, nothing quite compares to the gift of a view. It’s more than just scenery - it’s a moment of perspective. A gentle reminder that we’re part of something bigger. The sight of mountains meeting water, light shifting over peaks… it slows us down, and brings a sense of peace.

Views remind us to pause, to breathe, to feel small in the best way. They restore a sense of wonder and clarity we often forget in daily life.

And in places like Lyngen, where nature truly shows off, the view isn’t just something you see - it’s something you carry with you.

Thank you, 2025 🫶🏻 — Welcome, 2026 🙌🏻

It was hard to choose just 20 pictures from 2025 for this post, but here we go! We’re so thankful for all the new memories made with our dear guests — many of you visit us regularly ♥️, and others joined us for the first time — as well as with friends, our amazing staff, and local partners. We’re now moving into our 19th winter season, yet it still feels like we started this adventure just yesterday. Welcome, 2026 — and a warm welcome to all of you who will be joining us this year. Let’s do this!
