World Diabetes Day 2025 Special Event — BPKIHS, Dharan,Nepal
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day 2025, a special program was organized today at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan.
On this occasion, the Students Diabetes Wing met and interacted with:
• Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bikram Prasad Shrestha Sir
• Rector Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma Sir
• Registrar Prof. Surya Prasad Sangraula Sir
• Prof.Dr. Gaurishankar Sah Sir , Department of Pediatrics
The team held meaningful discussions focusing on strengthening pediatric diabetes services within the institution.
Major Activities of the Program
• Interaction, counseling, and psychosocial support for children with diabetes and their parents
• Detailed orientation on long-term diabetes management, insulin use, nutrition, and “Sick Day Rules”
• Glucose screening and risk assessment
• Additional diabetes screening and counseling services conducted in the OPD and wards
• Distribution of awareness messages and educational materials by BPKIHS Diabetes Wing students and physicians
• Practical recommendations on lifestyle modification—nutrition, exercise, stress management, and routine health checkups
Regular Service — Paediatric Diabetes Clinic Every Wednesday
BPKIHS conducts a Paediatric Diabetes Clinic every Wednesday afternoon.
Through this clinic, children living with diabetes receive the following free of cost:
• Insulin
• Glucometer
• Test strips
• Other essential logistics
This service has provided significant support to economically challenged families and has helped make long-term treatment, glucose control, and follow-up care far more effective.
Conclusion
Diabetes is not a disease that develops in a single day
it is a long-term condition related to lifestyle, genetic factors, and daily habits.
With timely diagnosis,
regular monitoring,
balanced diet,
physical activity,
stress control,
and adherence to medical advice,
diabetes can be fully managed and controlled.
