The main purpose of a toilet sling is to provide access to the perineal area (for toileting, hygiene, or changing) without needing to remove the sling.
• Crossing the leg straps would block access to that area, defeating the purpose of the toilet sling.
2. Sling Design
• Toilet slings are specifically designed to support the person securely without crossing straps.
• The leg straps are positioned wider apart to support the thighs and keep the user stable.
3. Comfort & Safety
• Crossing the leg straps can increase pressure on the thighs or groin area, causing discomfort or even injury.
• It may also alter the sling’s balance, leading to an unsafe or tilted lifting position.
4. Manufacturer’s Instructions
• Most sling manufacturers explicitly advise not to cross leg straps on toilet slings.
