Janmashtami, also called Shri Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is a festival which is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is the eighth incarnation (avatar) of Lord Vishnu. This marks the 5,248th birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.
Krishna Janmashtami, is the auspicious midnight celebration of Sri Krishna’s birth on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravana in the Vedic lunar calendar, in which the Moon is usually located in Rohini Nakshatra.
Kṛṣṇa is divinely unique! His versatile divine personality can never be circumscribed by any rule, formula or role. Sri Kṛṣṇa is a profound yogi, unveiling the purity of divine love in every form. As a great Seer he is an avatar of the Divine. As much as a child and a divine lover he is a Kshatriya at heart playing out the most intricate worldly Lila in the intrigues behind the ranabhumi of the Mahabharata.
