Healing Hands Nepal At Healing Hands Nepal we’re raising funds to bridge the gap between Health Care Service and the Community.

Healing Hands Nepal was founded in 2015 after a massive earthquake hit the country. When the earthquake hit, we worked with Health worker whose goal was to establish and maintain sustainable trauma reduction programs that brought healing, resilience and peace to all communities impacted by the natural and human-created disaster, violence and conflict. To eliminate unemployment and create jobs in rural areas we are promoting an organic farming practice. In Nepal, the economy is dominated by agriculture; it is still the livelihood for more than 88 percentage of the population, although only approximately 20 percentage of the total land area is cultivable. Hence our second mission is to minimize the negative impact on the environment, economically empowering the society and grow healthy foods. With the co-operation of Government of Nepal, we soon want to start farming internship opportunities with animals, fish, poultry and cash crops farm. Sustainable agriculture is the production of food and fibre that addresses many environmental, social concerns and animal welfare. HHN is a non-profit and voluntary organization based in Kathmandu, Nepal, registered in the Government of Nepal and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal. The mission of the organization is to provide Free Health Camps and to promote Organic Farming.

Nurses take vitals at mobile health camps in rural Nepal.

International Nurses Day, celebrated on May 12 (Florence Nightingale’s birthday), honors nurses’ global contributions. The 2025 theme, “Nurses: Architects of Equitable Healthcare,” envisions their leadership in bridging health disparities. Nepal’s nursing pioneer, Lamu Amatya emerged in the 1950s as its first formally trained nurse. She revolutionized healthcare accessibility, establishing foundational practices and training programs, elevating nursing professionalism in Nepal. Her legacy, paralleling global celebrations, highlights nurses' critical role in advancing health equity and patient care. This day commemorates past achievements and inspires future innovations, recognizing nurses as pillars of resilient, inclusive health systems worldwide.

Tokha Nagarpalika Women Community Health volunteers Administer the 'OPV' to new-born and children below five years.

To reduce child mortality, morbidity and disability associated with vaccine preventable diseases, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has launched the immunization drive after the detection of polio virus in a sample of water taken from the confluence of the Tukucha rivulet and the Bagmati river at Teku, Kathmandu. The Department of Health Services has mobilized its health workers and women community health volunteers to administer the Oral polio vaccine (OPV) targeting two hundred and eighty thousand children under the special immunization campaign

Under 'IPV Vaccination Campaign-2081 BS’, the government also conducted a polio vaccination campaign for children across the country from last month (June) to administer the Inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV). The MoHP had urged parents to bring their children to the nearest vaccination centers for polio immunization.

School girls in Lopre watching Menstruation Awareness Animation Video during Menstruation Hygiene Management program organised by Healing Hands Nepal and session conducted by

The two day session was specifically targeted young girls of Jaljala-6, and we reached approximately 30 young girls. We believe that this session played a significant role in promoting hygienic practices related to menstruation in their lives. The open environment we fostered allowed them to freely share their queries without any hesitation.

SRHR trainer Roni Shakya says, "I believe that, as an SRHR trainer, making a difference in one girl's life is also meaningful to her purpose of living".

What a heartwarming way to conclude the 10-day long Oral Health Camp!

It was raining since last night the girls busied themselves with the final touches of packing. There was a touch of charm in Nora when she broomed the library, which served as our mobile dental camp (video on the story).

Our last morning was tinged with emotion as all the hostesses found it hard to bid goodbye. The children were teary-eyed too, unwilling to part from the girls who had cared for teeth so well. In the midst of this, Kundan took charge of the kitchen and whipped up an elaborate breakfast.

We had planned to set off at 10:00 hrs as the girls were eager to take a dip in a small pool near the roaring Bhote Koshi river. However, the day was well past its mid-point when we finally started our journey. Those misty mornings with visibility limited to just the second house's vicinity felt almost magical.

After a hearty breakfast, Shivani took the lead in making her renowned masala tea. With Ashin peeling ginger, Kundan boiling water, and the rest of the team preparing cups with powdered milk and pouring and mixing, it was truly a team effort. So when I say Shivani made masala tea, it's more like she orchestrated its creation. 😁

Our incredibly kind host blessed us Tika, Flowers, and Khata scarves. He recited mantras and well wishes before sending us off back home. The farewell was marked by tears from both sides. We must have said "goodbye," "see you soon," "aufwiedersehen" a thousand times, but none of the volunteers seemed ready to leave. I found myself having to gently coax them into the cars.

The drive back home took us through lush verdant hills, mist-covered landscapes, and numerous monsoon waterfalls. With each passing sight, we reminisced about the mornings, days, and nights spent here – the dances, the music, and above all, the love & satisfaction that had filled these past 10 days.

Here's to Shivani, Tala, Darja, Nora, Kundan, Ashin, Akash, and Beebal – a team that partied hard but worked even harder. My hope is that you all return to your respective lives with wide grins on your faces & the sweetest memories tucked away in your hearts.

Even our tiny teeth need love and care. Good dental habits from a young age can keep our smiles shining and strong as we grow. On the occasion of "International Menstrual Hygiene Day" we would like to share a Photo from "The Risky Lives of Women Sent Into Exile—For Menstruating." on the
the National Geographic 2017 by photographer Paulomi Basu author Sarah Stacke.

"The first time I went into a "chaupadi" I was scared of snakes," says Mangu Bika, 14, who shares a menstrual hut with Chandra Tiruva, 34. "Now I am more scared of men and of getting kidnapped. I am really worried about what will happen to me after marriage. I want to grow up and be a teacher because I like going to school. When we go to school, we all sit together and there is no discrimination against menstruating women."

The Hindu practice of "Chaupadi" pushes menstruating women into isolation and into a normalized cycle of violence perpetuated by custom, tradition, and religion.

Under “Women & Girl’s Health & Hygiene” Healing Hands Nepal has conducted a “Menstrual Hygiene Management Awareness Program” to support and strengthen the capacity of schools girls in managing menstrual hygiene in Kathmandu, Makwanpur, Parbat, Gorkha, and Lamjung districts of Nepal,

With a vision to educate girls to effectively manage and sustain menstrual hygiene and sanitation practices whenever and wherever they are. Plus these girls must commit themselves to supporting other girls within and outside the school i.e. the communities/other schools in collaboration with women teachers to share the knowledge of intimate hygiene.

Girls in schools suffer the most from stigma. It is further worsened by inadequate preparations for the young girls not yet experiencing menstrual hygiene, lack of or inadequate water to clean and wash the body, lack of materials managing menstrual hygiene, private space and washrooms, and inappropriate facilities for disposal of materials for those who have used pads.

Despite the challenges, menstrual hygiene has consistently been overlooked in Nepal. We urge you to collaborate with us in closely engaging with the community to create and execute free health camps and large-scale awareness initiatives.

Menstrual Hygiene Management Awareness Program at Shree Ganesh Higher Secondary School Simpani, Marshyangdi Gaupalika, Lamjung District, Nepal.

The Nepalese government provides free sanitary pads to schoolgirls, but there is no plan for safe disposal of used pads. Shockingly, some teachers admit to throwing them in rivers. To address this issue and promote safe disposal, Healing Hands Nepal's "Women & Girls' Health & Hygiene" program includes a one-day MHM workshop for girl pupils.

Menstrual hygiene is crucial for women's health and well-being, but many lack access to proper facilities and products worldwide. On World Menstrual Hygiene Day, observed annually on May 28th, we aim to raise awareness and end the stigma surrounding menstruation.
