This week’s Mumsday Survival tip is a mindset shift that changes everything.

Not “jobs.”
Not chores.
Contributions.

Because when you live in a whānau, you’re part of the team. And teams show up for each other.

Age-appropriate, manageable mahi like emptying the dishwasher, vacuuming the lounge, or taking out the rubbish doesn’t just lighten your load — it builds capability, responsibility, and pride.

And here’s the quiet magic…
When kids help care for a space, they’re far more likely to respect it.

We’re not raising guests.
We’re raising capable humans.

And you, beautiful māmā, deserve support in your own home. 💛

Ever feel like leaving the park turns into a full-blown negotiation summit?

In today’s Don’t Be Fazed, It’s FASD tip, we’re talking about transitions — and why they can feel so big for little nervous systems, especially neurodiverse ones. I’m sharing a simple four-step rhythm that reduces meltdowns, lowers arguments, and builds safety through predictability.

Warn.
Remind.
State.
Move.

It’s not about being strict.
It’s about being steady.

Because when our words match our actions, our kids feel safe — and safety is where cooperation grows. 🌿

Parenting a neurodiverse child or a child with FASD isn’t about perfection — it’s about anchors.

Some days feel calm.
Some days feel like survival.
Both are real.

This isn’t a list of rules.
It’s a gentle reminder that structure creates safety, connection matters more than control, and love doesn’t disappear when things get hard.

If you’re parenting on “hard mode” — this is for you.

You’re not failing.
You’re learning a different rhythm.
And you’re doing better than you think. 💛

Save this for the days that feel loud.

This is just me, in week two of training.
Six kilometres. A little faster than last week.
Still puffing. Still figuring it out.

I’m not sharing this to motivate or convince anyone —
just documenting what it looks like when a woman chooses herself again, gently, in the middle of a very full life.

If it resonates, I’m glad.
If it doesn’t, that’s okay too.
Sometimes stories land exactly when they’re meant to.

We start each term with a whānau hui.
Not because we’re perfect — but because life is busy, loud, and no one thrives when everything lives only in Mum’s head.

We talk expectations.
Roles.
Weekly plans.
Personal goals.
And yes — Mum days go in the calendar too.

It’s how we get clear, connected, and back on the same page before the chaos begins.

Not rigid.
Not fancy.
Just honest, intentional, and grounded.

This is what works for us 🤍

Wellness Mama: The Delulu But Determined Era

Welcome to my Wellness Mama era.

This is the space where big goals meet real life —
where I’ve signed up for a half marathon, claimed I already have a flat stomach (lying down counts), and decided to show up anyway.

Not to be perfect.
Not to perform.
Just to begin.

This is about setting goals that start with “I am”,
trying things even when you’re not sure how it will go,
and letting other mums walk alongside you as you figure it out.

A little delusional.
Very determined.
And deeply human.

Come with me — we’ll see how it goes.

Our holidays have included the full spectrum — laughter, yelling, exhaustion, and some truly beautiful days where my kids have shown so much thoughtfulness.
It’s been messy and meaningful in equal measure.
As we head into the final week, I’ve created a simple daily plan to give us some grounding and direction.
Sharing in case it gives another whānau a softer landing too.

As the year comes to a close, routines shift and environments become louder. For many tamariki, especially those who are neurodivergent or living with FASD, this season can feel overwhelming.
Creating calm does not require perfection. Small, intentional changes can support regulation and safety. Mā ngā huringa iti, ka tupu te haumaru.

Simple ways to create calmer spaces:
✨Keep routines as predictable as possible
✨Reduce sensory load where you can
✨ Gently prepare children for changes
✨ Build in quiet time, he wā whakatā
✨ Follow their lead, whakarongo ki te tamaiti

Support is about helping children feel understood and safe.
Calm grows through connection, consistency, and aroha.
