I spent the first few months of this year building this game environment based on an Auckland train. Now it just needs zombies! :D

John Dempsey (Harbourscape) is a photographer and digital creator living in Tāmaki. He grew up in the North West of England near Manchester, migrated solo to Sydney in 2002 and moved to Auckland with his family in 2014.

Since John was young, computer-generated imagery (CGI) has captured his imagination. He loves the blend of art and science. It is a constantly-evolving
tool-set of almost unlimited artistic expression. John is passionate about combining his knowledge and skills from different disciplines to create work that is new and compelling.

Recently, John designed two of the murals that have been painted on the shop fronts in Panmure and was commissioned for photography work which featured in Tāmaki Regeneration's Support Local campaign and Mai Tāmaki magazine.

When John isn't studying and practising his skills, he enjoys walking his black labrador Ollie up one of the local maunga to clear his mind and get creative inspiration.

Check out John's awesome artwork and more at our current exhibition, "You Are Not Alone: Creative expressions of lived mental health experiences" on til Thursday 26 May.

I was lucky enough to shoot this cover plus I designed two of the actual murals! (Top middle and bottom middle) It’s really cool to be involved in these local projects and to drive down Queens Rd and see my work jumping out from a shop front. 😀

During Auckland's current lockdown I've created a 3D model of a dream (film) camera of mine, a black Leica M6 TTL. After many hours of work I'm really happy with the end result.

A lockdown project to create a realistic game prop of a Leica M6 in Blender then bake, texture and render it in Toolbag 4. Final model is 11,600 triangles from an original high poly of 150k.

Way back in September last year I was commissioned by Panmure Business Association to design a locally-themed artwork to be painted large on shop roller doors in Panmure. Well, here we are in May 2021 and there has been unforeseen technical problems, COVID delays and the like but today I was thrilled to see that it has now been painted!

My design is of Panmure Basin and Maungarei, my local maunga. These two features dominate the geography of Panmure and are of deep spiritual significance to locals. What made this project quite challenging was that it was strictly limited to seven or less colours. I used all seven!

I have already discussed the possibility of doing another piece in the future, which would be fantastic.

I just put my new website live! Check it out and let me know what you think.
