Calm your nervous system with Chiropractic - the research behind it.
How does chiropractic adjustments help the body to regulate our response to stress?

Chiropractic adjustments optimise nervous system function supporting appropriate activation of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system. It does this by optimising your body’s ability to appropriately sense and respond to your environment and efficiently switch between a parasympathetic and a sympathetic response.

Research shows that the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system function can be monitored using heart rate variability (HRV) and chiropractic care can influence HRV, restoring balance in the bodies stress response.

Our bodies are well equipped to handle stress in small doses, but when that stress becomes long-term or chronic, it can have serious effects on your body.

When the body is stressed, the sympathetic nervous system contributes to what is known as the “fight or flight” response. The body shifts its energy resources toward fighting off a life threat, or fleeing from an enemy. The sympathetic nervous system signals the adrenal glands to release hormones called adrenaline and cortisol to prepare the body to respond to the stress. Once the crisis is over, the body usually returns to the pre-emergency, unstressed state. Chronic stress can result in a long-term drain on the body. As the nervous system continues to trigger physical reactions, it causes a wear-and-tear on the body.

The health of our nervous system is directly related to the health of your spine. Chiropractic care can positively influence to create a balance between the sympathetic and the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) nervous systems.

If you are experiencing any of the body signals associated with chronic stress – fatigue, headaches, indigestion, poor immune function, pain – or know anyone who is, a chiropractor may be able to help you heal from within.

In a culture that is always on-the-go our body needs resilience and reserves to respond and regulate appropriately to stress that we are experiencing.
Chiropractic unwinds the effects of stress and builds resilience in the nervous system so that you can best regulate in response to stress.
Supplements provide the body with the nutrients required for the stress response and recovery; while herbal products can provide some relief while the stress response is activate in the body.
