🩸 Can a Hormone Blood Test Tell You If You're in Menopause or Perimenopause?🤔

Great question! The short answer is: it can help—but it’s not the full picture.
Here's what you need to know:

🌸 Perimenopause (the transition years before menopause) can start in your 40s—and your hormones can go up and down like a rollercoaster. That means a single blood test might show "normal" levels, even if you’re having symptoms like:

* Hot flashes
* Mood swings
* Sleep issues
* Irregular periods

So if your doctor says a hormone test isn’t helpful right now—it’s not that they’re brushing you off. It’s just that your symptoms and cycle history matter more than one lab result.

👩‍⚕️ What about menopause?

Once you’ve gone 12 months without a period, you’re likely in menopause. At that point, a high FSH (a hormone your brain makes) or low estrogen can help confirm it, especially if you're under 45 or had a hysterectomy.

💡 Some useful hormone tests:
✅ FSH – Often high in menopause
✅ Estrogen – Usually low in menopause
✅ AMH – Tells us about ovarian reserve, may help in early stages

❗ But again—these aren’t perfect, especially in perimenopause when levels bounce around a lot.
