Term Recap ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ตโœจ

As the New Year is coming, our Level 1 class learned about Japanese zodiac animals (ๅนฒๆ”ฏ) ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฏ
Even though Christmas comes first ๐ŸŽ„, it was a lovely way to explore a traditional Japanese New Year theme ๐ŸŽ

We learned animal names in Japanese and talked about which zodiac animal we are ๐ŸŽ
We also played a traditional Japanese game called Fukuwarai ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐ŸŽญ

The original character (Okame-san) can look a bit scary, so we changed it to a horse ๐Ÿด as the zodiac animal for 2026 โœจ
Blindfolds on, lots of giggles, and so much fun putting the pieces together ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’•

We finished the term with a small thank-you ceremony ๐Ÿ’
So proud of everyone for coming each week and learning a new language ๐ŸŒˆ
What a happy way to end the term ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›Japanese Study Group Recap๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›Level 1 Class

Today in our Level 1 Japanese Study Group, we learned about objects around the house and explored the names of different rooms in Japanese.
We practiced these room names together:

Bedroom โ€“ Shinsh*tsu

Bathroom (sink area, for washing face and brushing teeth) โ€“ Senmenjyo

Bathroom (where you take a bath) โ€“ Yokush*tsu

Living Room โ€“ Livingu Roomu

Kitchen โ€“ Kicchin

We talked about what kinds of objects belong in each room and matched everyday items to the correct space in the house.

At the end of the class, we had a lot of fun with our Mystery Box Game!
The kids wore an eye mask, put their hand inside the box, felt the object, and tried to guess what it was and which room it belongs to.
It was a great way to review todayโ€™s vocabulary through play.

Everyone did an amazing job learning new words and trying something new today!

๐Ÿฆ€ Japanese Study Group Recap๐Ÿฆ€ Counting in Japanese! ๐ŸŽˆ

Today, we learned how to count different objects and people in Japanese. In Japanese, we often use special counting words called counters.

โœจ Here are the counters we practiced:

ใ“ (ko) โ†’ used for many small objects
Example: 1 = ใฒใจใค, 2 = ใตใŸใค, 3 = ใฟใฃใคโ€ฆ

ใ•ใค (satsu) โ†’ used for books or magazines
Example: 1 book = ใ„ใฃใ•ใค / 1 magazine = ใ„ใฃใ•ใค

ใพใ„ (mai) โ†’ used for flat objects (stickers, paper, plates)
Example: 3 plates = ใ•ใ‚“ใพใ„

ใซใ‚“ (nin) โ†’ used to count people
โš ๏ธ 1 person (ใฒใจใ‚Š) and 2 people (ใตใŸใ‚Š) are special words!
From 3 people: 3 = ใ•ใ‚“ใซใ‚“, 9 = ใใ‚…ใ†ใซใ‚“

We practiced writing and speaking all the counter forms to get used to the rhythm of Japanese numbers!

๐ŸŽˆ Activity Time!
We played a fun balloon toss game to review the numbers out loud.
(Itโ€™s just like our Level 1 game โ€” but this time with balloons instead of stuffed toys!)
Everyone worked together and kept the balloon in the air while counting in Japanese. Super fun!

๐ŸŒŸ Why learning counters is important

Helps in real-life situations: shopping, ordering food, classroom items, counting friends!

Makes Japanese sound more natural and correct.

Builds confidence in speaking and helps remember numbers faster.

Prepares us for future lessons. There are many more counters in Japanese!

๐ŸŒบJapanese Study group Recap๐ŸŒบ
Counting with Counters!

In todayโ€™s lesson, we explored how to count objects in Japanese.
In Japanese, the way you count changes depending on the type of object.
For example, books, people, and small items all have different โ€œcounter words.โ€

We started with a useful and beginner-friendly counter:
๐Ÿ‘‰ ๏ฝžใ“ (ko) for small objects
We learned:
ใ„ใฃใ“๏ผˆikko๏ผ‰ใ€ใซใ“๏ผˆniko๏ผ‰ใ€ใ•ใ‚“ใ“๏ผˆsanko๏ผ‰โ€ฆ
This counter can be used for many everyday items, so itโ€™s a great one to remember!

We reviewed Japanese numbers first, then practiced both writing and speaking a helpful phrase:

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ ใ€Œใ“ใ‚Œใ€ใ„ใฃใ“ ใใ ใ•ใ„ใ€‚ใ€
Can I have one of these?

After that, we played a fun activity! Each student wore two wristbands labeled with Japanese numbers. We tossed a stuffed toy around the circle.
When someone said:

ใ€Œใ“ใ‚Œใ€ใซใ“ ใใ ใ•ใ„๏ผใ€

the student wearing the matching number wristband tried to catch the toy before it hit the floor.

(Next time I might try using a balloonโ€ฆ the toy dropped a bit too fast! A good learning moment for me ๐Ÿ˜†)

Everyone did an amazing job trying new language and moving their bodies while learning!
Looking forward to more fun with counters next lesson โœจ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

โœจ Japanese Study Group Recap โœจ

Today we had a fun session learning through a famous Japanese old story โ€” โ€œMomotarou (The Peach Boy)โ€ ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต

๐Ÿ“š What we did
โ€ข Watched the story and reviewed all the characters
โ€ข Practiced saying sentences like:

โžก๏ธ โ€œใ“ใ‚Œใฏ ใ„ใฌ ใงใ™ใ€‚โ€ /This is a dog. ๐Ÿถ

Learned useful everyday expressions:

ใ„ใฃใฆใ‚‰ใฃใ—ใ‚ƒใ„ (Itterasshai)
Said to someone who is about to leave ๐Ÿ‘‹

ใ„ใฃใฆใใพใ™ (Ittekimasu)
Said when you are leaving ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ

Even though we couldnโ€™t use the big projector today ๐Ÿ˜…, everyone watched so well and understood the story perfectly! Great job everyone! ๐ŸŒŸ

Looking forward to more adventures with Japanese language and culture next time! ๐ŸŽŒ๐Ÿ’›
