The incredible team from Powell Fenwick showed their commitment to saving lives and to the season of giving by stepping up to donate blood and plasma prior to Christmas.

With 23 dedicated members, their Team Red has collectively contributed:

“Tricked” into 250 plasma donations.
Big thanks to Tim Hamilton’s former workmates who “just happened” to pop into a NZBlood donor centre with Tim in tow around forty years ago. It turns out that their mischievous approach to recruiting donors has benefited many hundreds of recipient patients over the ensuing decades! Little did they know that Tim’s blood type is AB which is the universal blood type for plasma and is always in high demand because it can be given to any patient regardless of their blood type.
Congratulations on your incredible achievement Tim and thank you for being a great advocate for blood and plasma donation. Your dedication and generosity have saved and improved the lives of hundreds of patients in urgent need.

50 years of philanthropy to attain a rare milestone.
This week we celebrated a very special lifesaving achievement when Canterbury resident Vicki Krom-Innes gave her 100th blood donation.
Whole blood milestones of this magnitude are uncommon, so we were especially delighted to say THANK YOU and congratulations to Vicki on behalf of hundreds of recipient patients and the entire NZBlood team.

Supported by husband Don for her 100th donation and encouraged to donate 50 years ago by her mum who was also a donor, Vicki never forgets the precious nature of her O negative blood type. “Donating blood doesn’t cost anything and it can make such a difference to someone in poor health who needs it”. We couldn’t agree with you more Vicki!

O negative is the universal blood type. That means Vicki’s donations have been used in emergency situations when there wasn't time to check the recipient's blood type and to save the lives of unborn babies in need of blood transfusions.

Congratulations again Vicki, you should feel proud and deeply appreciated. We look forward to seeing you and Don again soon.

A huge shoutout to a few of our amazing Jani-King (NZ) staff who took time last week to donate blood. It’s something we care deeply about, and we’ve now taken part in donation days a few times.

Every visit is a reminder of how a simple act can help save lives. We’re incredibly proud of our team for living our values in the community as well as on site. ❤️💉

Citycare Water - heroes don’t always wear capes, sometimes they wear hi-vis vests!

Distance and time didn’t hold the team from Citycare Water back. Their lifesaving team came together from different parts of Christchurch, driving to the NZBlood Donor Centre to donate plasma and whole blood. Thank you, Citycare Water for your lifesaving donations.
We can’t wait to see you when you’re eligible to donate again.

Wellbeing and winners.
“Athletes” from NZBlood recently competed in an indoor rowing regatta and WON!
While the main purpose of attending was to promote NZBlood’s kaupapa among a range of other business and community groups, it was a nice bonus to step atop the podium.
Note – it was B grade that NZBlood won, and some much fitter athletes qualified for A grade.
The “athletes” wanted to give a special shout-out to their non-rowing coxswain - apparently ears are still ringing from the passionately delivered motivational messages.

20 years of community spirit.
Selwyn resident Kelvin recently gave his 200th donation with NZBlood. Big thanks for your generosity and community spirit Kelvin. Achieving such a huge milestone while juggling family and work responsibilities has taken 20 years of heroic commitment.

A massive thank you to the team from Church of Christ for donating at our Addington Donor Centre!

Their commitment to community wellbeing is inspiring - organising regular group donations and bringing new donors each visit. Thank you for helping to grow NZBlood’s lifesaving whānau.

So far, Church of Christ has made 56 donations, potentially saving up to 168 lives. That’s an incredible impact, and we’re so grateful for the ongoing support.

Proud to help babies in need.
This week we celebrated Robert Fowler, a long standing and regular platelet donor who made his 150th donation. Robert’s achievement is particularly special and noteworthy because the bulk of his donations have been paediatric platelets which go to babies in urgent need. With that in mind, Robert often helps out at short notice. His flexible and no-fuss approach to the longer platelet donation process makes him a very special lifesaver indeed!
Robert, you should feel proud and deeply appreciated by countless paediatric patients and the entire NZBlood team. Well done!
