One of my favorite postpartum lunches.
It's simple bowl of bone broth, poured over some steamed veges, rice and an egg.

I always make a big bowl as its so easy to eat a big portion.
It is nutrient packed, warming and easy to digest.

It's been a few hectic weeks as I suddenly realized how far along I am 😅.

I've been making lots of soups, meals and breads for the freezer so I have less to think about once bubs gets here.

It can be so easy to fall into the trap of premade shop meals or takeaways during your postpartum.
But your body needs to be nourished, mamas need to be held and put healing needs to be prioritized!

Take the time to make good nourishing nutritional meals while you can!

Teaching my children the art of being in the present, working with nature, and enjoying the natural world around them is a huge priority to me.

Sharing the joys of making daisy chains with my children, lead my oldest to ask for a dandelion chain while at the park. Obviously I gladly obliged!

I intentionally take the time to share with my children about wild edibles and how they can help your body.
They're are learning the art of identification, how to safely identify wild edibles while out and about.

Now you might think, "Meg, this is a dandelion, they're so easy to identify!"
And I would agree with you, but I have seen dandelions misidentified by many people, and although the look alikes are not dangerous to consume, it opens the door to more complicated mistakes being made with other not so friendly plants.

My children know what they can and cannot eat while they're out, we talk all the time about avoiding roadside picking, areas likely to be sprayed with poison or even fertilizers.

It is absolutely my greatest joy to watch my two children potter around at home and hear my oldest guiding my youngest on the plants you can eat from moms " garden" ( more like a grass patch right now!).

She freely walks around and picks to eat dandelions, kale, miners lettuce, cauliflower leaves, cabbage leaves and broccoli leaves, plantain, sorrel and so many more random things!
She knows that if she gets stung by stinging nettle to find a dock leaf and rub it on.
It continues to surprise me how much information she has collected just from me rambling in the garden with her.

I adore my children and Im so excited to continue to pass down plant wisdom to them as they grow up.
To empower them to heal their own bodies in a world where that basic skill has been lost.

Let's talk Potatoes!

As a holistic focused mama I try to be very intentional with what my family and I put in our bodies.

As soon as I was able, I prioritized growing my own potatoes.
Someone people might find this odd, like why potatoes???

In New Zealand, potatoes received roughly 10 different pesticide.and herbicide sprays.
Knowing that once sprayed the plant would absorbs these sending it into the roots and tubers. Then when we ingest the potato. all these different poisons would get into our system to some degree.

Growing potatoes is a very rewarding and fairly simple.task.
They are a plant that keeps on giving, no matter how through you think you are there will always be a potato left to regrow! (Or at least for me!)
I do not harvest all my potatoes at once, but rather as needed.
This ensure that I always have potatoes in the ground sprouting when the seasons change and means I don't have to worry about storage and spoiling.

Now I like to grow several varieties as each potato does well in different dishes, and it's just so fun to see how they're all so different!

If you want to grow anything this year, I encourage you to try your hand at potatoes.

Taking a quite garden day today after a horrible day yesterday.

On days when the world is to horrible to face.
When we hear crushing news about other people's troubles.
When we realize this world just scrolls through people's troubles with no regards to their humanity.

It's time to step back, look at what we have and what we're trying to build and ground our souls with the peace of our families.

We were not meant to know all the trauma around the world, we weren't meant to see people's lives cruelty taken from them.

Life can be hard enough without carrying the world's weight as well.

Plantain harvest this week.
It is one of my goals this season to do a harvest of at least one herb a week.

Some simple herbs that grow in abundance here are
Yarrow
Plantain
Dandelion
Red clover.

Plants I am trying to grow in larger quantities this year are
Chamomile
Calendula
Oregano
Thyme
Mint
Lemon balm
Echinacea
St Johns wort
Mulluin

As well as others but these ones are going to be my main focus.

Fingers crossed I have time to do everything in my garden as I hope to before baby arrives.

I am absolutely the kind of person who would take this gift anyway over chocolate or treats!

My friend was clearing an overgrown vege garden and gifted me this big bag of stinging nettle!

This couldnt have been better timing as I've just run out of my own dried collection!

I can't believe spring is here already!
Don't get me wrong some cold winter days have felt long but on a whole I think this has been an awesome winter, I've enjoyed the fires and herbal teas, the nourishing meals and just the family time.

The sun and heat is a welcome guest now though as we step out of winter and new life springs out showing it's face to the world

Tree buds and daffodils are peaking out and starting to show their glorious return.

This spring is going to be fantastic, with wedding flowers to plant, veges to start and a garden to get back on top of, oh yes and let's not forget the baby due soon,.it's going to be an awesome season.

Take care as we step into this busy season, take time to test as you need and continue to look after ourselves and our families with good nourishing food!
