Article 4 is now live on the Rewired Runner website: The Science of Neuroplasticity After Stroke

Recovery after stroke is not just about time. It is about how the brain adapts, rewires, and learns again.

Neuroplasticity is the process that makes recovery possible. The brain’s ability to form new pathways, rebuild connections, and improve function through repetition and effort.

This article breaks down what neuroplasticity actually means in a real-world recovery context, and how consistent action plays a key role in driving progress.

Because improvement is not random. It is built through intentional effort over time.

This is the hardest story I have to tell, but also the most important.

Not long before my stroke, I was an ultra runner.

Then, in a moment, everything changed.

My body stopped working the way it should.
My world narrowed fast.
And I was forced into a fight I never saw coming.

This reel touches on that turning point.

Not for sympathy.
But because people need to know that life can fall apart quickly — and that even then, recovery, adaptation, and hope can still be possible.

My journey was not neat.
It was not quick.
And it was not just physical.

It was a battle to rebuild movement, confidence, identity, and belief.

If you are going through your own setback — neurological, physical, mental, or emotional — I want this page to remind you of one thing:

Your worst moment does not have to be the end of your story.

Follow Rewired Runner for real recovery stories, practical encouragement, and hope for the road ahead.

The hardest part of recovery is not always the stroke itself.
Sometimes it’s what happens when you go home.

The routine changes.
The support drops away.
And the responsibility to keep going lands back on you.

That part can feel lonely.
But it’s also where resilience is built.

Small efforts count.
Messy progress counts.
Showing up on the hard days counts.

If this speaks to you, leave a comment or share it with someone who needs it.

Rewired Runner. The name comes from two parts.

Runner reflects a passion for movement, progress, and pushing forward.

Rewired represents the process of rebuilding after stroke, retraining the brain, and creating new pathways to relearn movement and function.

Together, it captures what this platform stands for.

Recovery, adaptation, and the belief that improvement is always possible.

At the Go One More Ultra, U.S. Marine combat veteran Mike Egan competed for 27 hours, covering more than 110 miles and finishing in the top 28, outlasting 117 runners.

When heavy rain made the course impossible for his wheelchair, Egan refused to stop, continuing the race on his hands in a remarkable display of endurance and determination.

Why Rewired Runner?

Because sometimes recovery is not about becoming who you were before.

It is about rebuilding.
Adapting.
Finding new strength.
And choosing to keep moving forward.

To me, rewired speaks to recovery, resilience, and growth.

And runner is about more than sport. It is about momentum, progress, and refusing to give up when life gets hard.

This page was born from my own journey, but the message is for anyone facing neurological recovery, adversity, or a tough season in life.

You may not come back the same.
But you can still move forward with purpose.
