Hi Everyone,

We’ve been pretty quiet lately, so we just wanted to touch base with y’all with where we’re at. You've probably guessed it, but Melocasa shows are all done and dusted. So here's our RIP, thanks for having us, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight post.

The Melocasa days + putting on gigs were some of the raddest times we had in Dunedin, so first of all here’s a massive thank you to you all - the funky cats who helped to create the vibe, the performers, the venues and of course, Mr Scott Muir. It was one hell of a privilege bringing together so many epic people and so many talented bands.

When Melocasa kicked off The Shambles (formerly 'Three Dudes + a Nug) were in their dog days as a cover band and many of the Dunnos bands you love now didn't even exist. After the Melocasa Festy in the front yard of our Melocasa flat, we set out to create a platform that would bring students to live music.

Since, Dunedin music has exploded. The scene has moved on and developed year after year with bands like Marlin's Dreaming, Soaked Oats, The Shambles and Mild Orange (amongst many others) doing some really big things. As a city, Dunedin is punching way above it's weight in terms of emerging acts. The scene is super tight knit and super unique. We were all lucky to be a part of the early days of the new wave and it's now super cool to see so many people supporting the local acts.

So here's a massive shout out to all you cats who partied with us, laughed with us, and generally had some awesome times together. Keep supporting musicians and all artists. Make sure you pay for shows and support all artists! At ain't cheap being an artist.

Some very good friends of Melocasa have started a Hello Zukeen, a surf and arts magazine. It's a very beautiful publication. They've got a lot of good Dunedin musos in there, so we are massive fans!

Apparently Issue One is nearly sold out. There's only one box of mags left and they say they will burn what's left of them to appease the gods of print? Crazy fu***rs. Anyway, if anyone's keen, you can buy one here:

Hey team, I somehow ended up with a media entourage with Jacinda for a few hours today. In the midst of my fandom (the Adren effect is a real thing) I forgot to ask Jacinda about DJing in Duners tonight. Damn. I eventually learned she had to fly out at 5.00pm, so alas, there was no opportunity for her to deliver a set to the masses. Let's try and sort out a Jacinda set in the near future. Stay tuned.

An open letter to Jacinda Ardern… to DJ in Dunedin

Dear Ms. Adern,

It has only been three weeks since you were elected leader of the NZ Labour party. They say a week is a long time in politics. But in just three, you have brought something special to New Zealand.

The media have dubbed it ‘Jacindamania’. You call it ‘relentless positivity’. I would call it nothing short of a miracle.You have breathed life into what was looking to be a dreary, uninspiring and lifeless election.

Too often, politicians struggle to galvanise the youth of New Zealand. Too often, young kiwis have been disenfranchised by political leaders they struggle to connect with. But since your brief stint as the leader of the Labour Party, young people around me have been abuzz with the ‘Jacinda effect’.

For now, it seems the hype is real.

On Friday this week you visit Dunedin for your sorely awaited health announcement. Your announcement is timely. It comes at a time when the future of Dunedin hospital looks uncertain and I am sure, it will be appreciated by many. However, another concerning issue continues to fester in Dunedin’s student ghetto

Jacinda, that issue is the youth voter turnout.

In 2014, 40% of NZ’s youth didn’t turn out to vote. While your campaign has undoubtedly excited NZ’s youth, further pushes will be needed to maximise the youth vote for the Labour Party.

For myself, an avid music fan and sometimes promoter, there seems to be no better way to engage with Dunedin’s student masses than with one of your highly sought after DJ sets. In Dunedin. This Friday.

It would be an opportunity to let your hair down, to have a glass of single-malt whiskey I hear you are so fond of and most importantly, connect with the youth through music, the world’s only universal language.

To this day, many continue to speak in deep admiration of your set at Laneway 2014. Few DJ’s have the sheer audacity to drop Snoop Dog, The Mint Chicks and Smashing Pumpkins, all in one set.

Jacinda, you have initiated a new wave of politics in NZ. The tide is turning on the baby-boomers and neo-liberal politics. Your campaign has inspired a new generation of voters.

Your DJ set in Dunedin may go down as one of the defining moments in this year’s election race. I am sure, it will not only boost Labour’s vote in North Dunedin, but all over the country. I mean, when was the last time the leader of a major political party dropped a DJ set on the campaign trail? Perhaps you could go back to back with your deputy leader Kelvin Davis?

The ball is in your court Jacinda. Let me know if you’re keen to make this happen.
