With back pain, people often focus on where it hurts.

But sometimes, the real issue can be what’s going on underneath.

The multifidus muscle is a deep stabilizing muscle that can switch off after an injury, or weaken with disuse (and it may not always recover on its own either).

This could be one of the reasons why your back problems keep returning. (Of course, there can be other reasons, but this is a good place to start).

In this video, I explain what can happen to these muscles and why it is so important to make sure they are strong.

Have you heard of these muscles before?

If you would like some help with your back issues, send a message and we can see if chiropractic care may be right for you.

If you spend a lot of time sitting, your neck and upper back can gradually drift into a rounded position.

Bruggers relief position is a simple way to reset posture and activate the muscles that support the spine.

Small movement breaks throughout the day can make a big difference in how you feel at the end of it.

If you are suffering from a sore neck or shoulders, here are 4 simple home remedies you can try.

They are simple to do, but can be very effective.

My latest painting…. “Kelly Slater, riding the barrel”.

I had a skim board at home that I had painted a few years ago, but never really liked what I created, so I sanded it down and repainted it.

This is the first surfer I have painted and love how it turned out. I’m still figuring out painting water though.

I added a touch of colour with the red Quicksilver logo for a bit of interest.

My favourite part of this is the water drops over parts of his body, I think they add a bit of interest to it.

What do you think?

Your brain 🧠 constantly refines itself through a process called synaptic pruning. This is where the brain 🧠 strengthens frequently used neural pathways and trims or prunes unused ones.

Moving your body isn’t just exercise, it’s reinforcing some of these pathways.

This is the use it or lose it principle in action.

For me, the ability to get up and down off the floor without thinking about it is key one.

Here’s something to think about out when it comes to training or exercising.

I love the idea of every time you train, you are putting deposits in your bank.

The key is to make sure you have enough deposits to draw on when you need it.

Why do you exercise? Let me know in the comments

Struggling to get out bed in the mornings due to a sore lower back? Then try this technique.

It can help you get out of bed with less discomfort and also hopefully reduce the risk or irritating it.

Try it out and let me know in the comments how you found it.

Most people don’t lose movement because they’re aging.

They lose it because they stop using it.

Your body adapts to what you repeatedly do, and what you repeatedly avoid.

If you never reach overhead….
Why would your body keep that ability?

That’s why I hang (and you should try it too)

Not for aesthetics.
Not for Instagram.

But to maintain capacity as I get older.

Today, try moving more parts of your body than you normally would.

Small things done consistently add up over time.

That’s the long game.

Disc bulge? Herniated disc? Sciatica?

If you’ve ever been told you have a disc bulge (or you’re worried you might), you’re not alone, and the good news is that most disc injuries improve without surgery.

I’ve just updated and rewritten a 2-part blog series to help explain disc bulges in a simple, clear way.

In Part 1 you’ll learn:

- What a disc bulge actually is
- How disc injuries happen over time
- Why many disc bulges cause no pain at all
- Common symptoms (including sciatica)

In Part 2 you’ll learn:
- How disc bulges are diagnosed
- Treatment options (from conservative care to surgery)
- Practical tips you can try at home
- The key habits that help recovery

If you’re currently dealing with back pain, sciatica, or you’ve seen “disc bulge” on an MRI report, this is a great place to start.

You can read the blog series here:

It’s easy to get caught up in trying to find the perfect routine or exercise or “health hack”.

But most of the time, the biggest results come from doing the basics, and doing them consistently.

Small actions done consistently will almost always beat big actions done occasionally.

A few minutes a day can make a huge difference over time.

What’s one simple habit you can commit to this week?

A little bit about us...

I am a chiropractor, father of 2 beautiful girls, husband and part time artist. My goal is to help people FEEL, MOVE and FUNCTION better. I achieve this through, chiropractic adjustments, exercise/movement prescription and advice. I practice what I preach by getting adjusted, eating well (most of the time) and exercising regularly. We also need to rest and I use my artwork as my way to de-stress.

I like to live by the mantra “Try to move more things, more often”. It is a simple fact that if we all moved a little more and did it regularly, you will be amazed at how good you can feel, and how easy it can be.

I hope to provide lots of useful information, tips and tools that you can use to help your own body feel, move and function better. Watch our videos, read our blogs on our website and most importantly....... try them. I know if you do, your body will thank you for it.
