The food pyramind has been overhauled.

Recent (Jan 2026) new U.S. dietary guidelines have unveiled an inverted food pyramid, shifting focus to protein and healthy fats at the base, emphasizing whole foods, and significantly limiting sugar and processed items, aligning with low-carb principles.

The 2025-2030 edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) was released Jan. 7. Updated by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) every five years, the DGAs are used by federal agencies, nutrition policymakers, and health professionals, and inform nutrition resources developed for the general public.

Things most people never think twice about can send a person with T1D into danger within minutes.

It’s the midnight alarms that jolt you awake.
The low that hits in the grocery store line.
The high that won’t come down no matter what you do.

It’s needles, sensors, site changes, beeps, exhaustion and still getting up to do it all again tomorrow.

There are no days off.
