When describing intuition, many people refer to gut feelings that seem to arise as the soul whispering advice. However, psychologists recognize intuition as a non-analytical thought process that often occurs outside our conscious awareness. Intuition is an innate ability to piece together snippets of information and emotional impressions to form a “gut feeling” about something or someone. It’s the process of reaching a conclusion without realizing how you got there.
How many times has your intuition been correct? I’m guessing it’s often, if not always. It’s strange how we can accurately sense things without having much conscious information. For example, we might walk into a room and instantly pick up on someone’s hostility or lack of honesty during a conversation.
Perhaps we’re reading subtle cues like body language or receiving clarity through our perception of someone’s overall energy. Our intuition can serve us well by keeping us aligned with our goals, protecting us from harm, and indicating whether someone is a good match for the direction we want to take. Additionally, our gut can often reveal what our values and boundaries look like, providing much-needed clarity.
Ignoring your intuition is a subtle act of self-betrayal, while honoring it is self-care. However, it’s essential to know whether it’s truly your intuition speaking or old wounds. When your nervous system is relatively regulated, intuition tends to be clearer and more accurate because you’re not filtering everything through fear, hypervigilance, or old conditioning. You can find more information on this in my second book, ‘Healing Is the New High.’
The law of polarity helps us understand two ends of the same spectrum through contrast. Duality is a feature of the physical, linear world, and it helps us navigate life. Although we might not be able to pinpoint where “hot” begins or ends, we understand it because we’ve experienced “cold.” In the same way, by knowing authenticity, loyalty, and light, we’re also able to recognize their opposites. When those signals arise, it’s OK to step away to protect your time, energy, and well-being.
