Most people don’t think about air quality when it comes to lipedema, but honestly, we should.

Years ago I got really into seriously collecting houseplants (I have over 60 šŸ˜…) and I noticed something interesting my whole household was getting sick less often!

And there is science behind this: The NASA Clean Air Study found that certain plants can remove toxins from the air (in controlled environments).

Because air pollution isn’t just something ā€œout thereā€
it’s also inside your home:

* cleaning products
* fragrances like candles/air-freshener
* mould
* poor airflow

Did you know that the World Health Organization estimates that 99% of the world’s population breathes air that exceeds safe limits because air pollution has increased over time with modern living and urbanisation.

Now here’s where this matters for lipedema:
While we don’t have direct studies (yet) linking air pollution to lipedema, we still have strong research showing pollution:

* increases inflammation
* disrupts the immune system
* affects fat tissue
* impacts vascular health

And these exact systems involved in lipedema, so while no this is not the ā€˜root cause’ of lipedema, it can absolutely add to the load your body is already dealing with daily.

So get yourself a few house plants: spider plants or even snake plants are great.
Open windows daily to get rid of stale air and mould.
Stop using candles, air fresheners and fly sprays.
If you are in an office job - go outside for some fresh air daily.

All these little things do add up to improve our health and Lipedema care is not just about food, training and hormones.

MY 12 MONTH TRANSFORMATION WITH LIPEDEMA AFTER SURGERY.

Not only do I have the qualifications- I can walk the talk too and have applied what I know not only to myself but the exclusive 20 women I take on for 1-1 online coaching every month. Lipedema and fat loss do work but ā€˜fat-loss’ comes last once you master my four corner foundation first. My goal as coach is not only to guide you but to educate you to.. you can move on from online coaching and take away foundational life skills to not only manage Lipedema but live with a healthier and stronger mindset to.

So if your coach is not educating you what are they doing?

I am taking on only two more clients for next month as two of my ladies are moving on!

ADHD and lipedema are separate diagnoses with different primary mechanisms driving them.

However, when you zoom out into systems biology, there is emerging research showing overlap in some of the physiological pathways involved in each particularly inflammation signalling, hormonal regulation, gut–brain communication, and nutrient-dependent metabolic processes such as methylation.

Methylation refers to one-carbon metabolism, which depends on nutrients like folate, B12, and B6. Variants in the MTHFR gene (such as C677T and A1298C) can influence the efficiency of converting folate into its active form (5-MTHF) and may affect homocysteine regulation. These are biochemical efficiency differences, not disease causes on their own, and clinical impact varies significantly between individuals.

The gut–brain axis is another area of active research in ADHD, with studies exploring microbiome differences, immune signalling, and metabolic pathways in neurodevelopmental conditions.

There is also one small cross-sectional study reporting higher ADHD screening scores in women with lipedema. However, this reflects symptom screening rather than confirmed diagnosis and does not establish causation.

Overall, both ADHD and lipedema are now understood as multi-system conditions influenced by genetic, hormonal, metabolic, immune, and environmental factors. The current evidence shows overlap in physiological systems, but does not demonstrate a shared root cause.

This is still an emerging area of research, and what we can say with confidence today is that these are complex, interconnected biological systems not single-pathway conditions.

Can you become an athlete with Lipedema? I certainly think it is possible. This is what 42kg of fat loss looked like while still retaining and building muscle. New coach. New direction and new goals to smash!

As a nutritionist, most women don’t need a new diet they really need education and support around building a sustainable framework suitable for long-term health and managing Lipedema.

Because ā€œjust eat healthyā€ doesn’t help when you don’t know; how much, when, or how to structure it.

This is my exclusive framework I use to Lipedema to support:
energy, training, recovery, and inflammation. Without cutting out food groups like fruit or carbohydrates!

Save this so you can actually apply it.

*This is not medical advice, with more nuanced issues like gut dysbiosis, MCAs, or poor estrogen clearance these all need to be managed uniquely and tailored to that individual.

As a Lipedema coach you will always find me reading and I got my hands on The World Lipedema Congress research which discusses emerging evidence linking intestinal permeability and inflammation to lipedema. A topic I am extremely interested in!

When the gut barrier becomes more permeable, bacterial fragments like LPS can enter the bloodstream and trigger immune responses.

Because lipedema is already associated with chronic inflammation and altered adipose tissue, scientists are now exploring whether gut barrier integrity may influence symptoms.

This is an evolving area of research, but it highlights how interconnected the body really is for me and I am sure for you too!

I will be honest, it took me a while to get my head around mast cells as are not a simple concept.

This is not something you fully understand overnight because the deeper you go into the biological layers of the immune function, inflammation, hormones and the nervous system, you realise it all overlaps.

This carousel is just the basics. A starting point so you can begin to understand what mast cells do and why they’re becoming such a big part of the lipedema conversation.

For many women with Lipedema and comorbidities this is the missing piece behind why their body feels so reactive to food, stress, training, even their cycle.

If you’ve been feeling like nothing makes sense, and you have tried everything there’s usually a reason.

The loop that keeps you stuck.

If you’re living with lipedema and find yourself stuck in a cycle of impulsive eating, fatigue, shame and frustration it’s not a lack of willpower.

For many women, there’s a powerful connection between lipedema, ADHD traits, and binge-eating patterns.

Here’s how the loop works:

ADHD traits can make it harder to regulate impulses and dopamine-driven behaviours →
This increases vulnerability to binge eating and emotional eating →
Binge eating drives inflammation, insulin spikes and metabolic stress →
Lipedema pain, fatigue and heaviness increase →
Movement drops, frustration grows, dopamine dips…
…and the cycle repeats.

This isn’t about ā€œtrying harder.ā€ It’s a neuro-hormonal loop that requires understanding, structure, and compassion not shame.

The good news? This loop can be interrupted.
With the right strategy, support, and education, change is possible.

Every day I get questions about estrogen levels so let’s get into it!

Estrogen is often blamed in lipedema, but this does not fully reflect the underlying physiology.

Current evidence supports a more nuanced view: estrogen metabolism and clearance pathways are critical.

Estrogen is processed in the liver and eliminated via the gut. Impairments in these systems can lead to recirculation and prolonged exposure at the tissue level, even when blood levels appear normal.

This is particularly relevant in lipedema, where adipose tissue dysfunction, inflammation, lymphatic changes, and connective tissue abnormalities are already present.

Understanding this shifts the focus from simply ā€œlowering estrogenā€ or ā€˜estrogen being too high’ to supporting how the body processes and eliminates it.

This is HUGE for our community.

Lipedema, first described in the 1940s, has officially been recognized as a chronic disease. For decades it has been misunderstood, misdiagnosed as obesity or confused with lymphedema, and often dismissed as just a cosmetic issue. That misunderstanding has led to underdiagnosis, stigma, and fragmented care for so many women.

This recognition validates what we’ve known all along: lipedema is real, it is medical, and it deserves proper diagnosis, research, and treatment pathways.

Skipping breakfast with lipedema? Here’s why you might be sabotaging yourself and your goals!

• Lipedema tissue is highly sensitive to stress hormones, especially cortisol. Skipping breakfast can delay and prolong cortisol release, keeping your body in a higher stress state later in the day.
• Elevated or mistimed cortisol can worsen inflammation, fluid retention, and pain in women with lipedema
• Missing the morning meal often destabilises blood sugar, increasing cravings, fatigue, and energy crashes that make movement and consistency harder.
• For a body already managing connective tissue dysfunction, poor nutrient timing adds another layer of metabolic stress.
• With lipedema, when you eat can be just as important as what you eat for hormone balance and nervous system regulation.
