Yesterday our team spent time on the ground in Cambridge at the Greyhound races, taking the opportunity to listen, connect and better understand how things are feeling right now.

Our role at OnTrack is to support the wellbeing of people across the racing industry, especially during periods of change. That starts with listening. It starts with being visible and approachable. And it continues with making sure the right support is accessible when it’s needed.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to talk, shared their stories , or simply came over to say hello. We appreciate your openness and your willingness to engage.

Last week our team was proud to be on the ground at the Karaka Sales – celebrating 100 years of one of racing’s most iconic events.

We joined the action on Tuesday and Thursday, with our marquee set up alongside leaflets, pull-up banners (and yes, the chocolates, cold drinks and chips!), connecting with industry participants as part of our mission to get OnTrack out about to meet with the full spectrum of racing people.

Across the two days, we had hundreds of meaningful conversations and gathered valuable insights through short surveys, helping us better understand the needs of people working across the industry.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their time, and supported the OnTrack by filling out a survey. Being present, visible, and approachable at moments like this is a key part of how we continue to support the racing community.

Here’s a little snapshot of 2025…

This year we racked up the kilometres, visited many tracks/stables/kennels, had great conversations, and possibly had a hand in the world-record intake of jellybeans!

We are so grateful for every moment shared, every connection made, and every laugh along the way.

2025 in numbers:
• 🚗 33,469.15 kms driven — our cars now know the country better than Google Maps.
• ✈️ 58 flights — we have officially earned “professional tray-table operators” status.
• 🗣️ 1,698 people chatted with by the 2 Field team members in September to November alone! - Thanks for all the yarns, insights, and laughs.
• 🍬 Copious amounts of OnTrack jellybeans were distributed ad consumed across the motu

We’re excited to get out there and see you all in 2026!

Summer racing brings big opportunities — more meetings, higher stakes and serious prize money. But the season’s pace can hit hard, with long hours, money pressure and tough emotions. Balancing racing, family and social demands isn’t easy. Here’s how to stay steady, protect your wellbeing and support your crew through the busy months ahead.

How to stay on track over summer:

🫶 Take care of yourself
🛏️ Rest when you can
🥗 Eat well, sleep well, cut back on alcohol
🙅 Set limits
✋ Say “no” to extra jobs or social stuff if you need downtime
🗣️ Talk to people
👐 Share how you’re feeling with mates, family or workmates
🆘 Ask for help early
📞 If things are heavy, reach out to help lines or OnTrack
🩷 Look after each other

Check in with your crew — racing life hits everyone differently!

If it’s getting tough, talk to someone — you’re not alone.

James and Sarah were thrilled to be part of the very first National Thoroughbred Week in New Zealand and what an awesome initiative it is.

The event gives people a real look behind the scenes of the racing world, offering hands-on insight into the facilities, feed, equipment, and practical skills that keep the industry ticking.
It was fun to see a few people have a crack at the mechanical horse, (it’s much harder than it looks!), and of course meeting many stunning horses who were more than happy to soak up the attention.

We loved connecting with attendees, and the teams hosting, whilst sharing a bit about who we are at OnTrack, and what we offer.

A huge thank you to Ritchie Murray Racing, Monacurragh Lodge, Kezia Murphy Racing, Champagne Racing, Jess Land Equestrian, and their teams for hosting such well-run events. It was also a pleasure spending time with Amy, Brigette, and Melaney from the NZTR Education team, always a pleasure catching up with you.

We were just sorry we could not attend all the other awesome events that were held around the motu!

Big shout-out to Jo Starr from NZ Horse Ambulance for some of the fantastic photos captured.

We are already looking forward to next year!
