International Brain🧠Tumour Awareness Week.
The 🎬Netflix series 🍎 ‘Apple cider vinegar’tells the story of wellness influencer and fraudster Belle Gibson who claimed she had cancer.
This series was released the same day as my husband was released from hospital following his 3rd brain 🧠 surgery.
I first came across Belle Gibson whilst researching ways to ‘fix’ my husband, who has brain 🧠 cancer. Tears welled in my eyes😢as I read her📙story.
I could relate, to the brain cancer, the hard time growing up, also, I had an interest in nutrition and alternative health, however I felt an unease as I believed and still do, in a holistic approach where ideally the alternative can operate in harmony with medical science rather than to the exclusion of it.
Thing is, 'harmony' is harder when it feels like medical science is failing you, and it’s completely understandable that people would start searching for a more alternative solution.
"Brain tumours are the leading cause of cancer death for children and adults under 40, with little improvement in survival rates or significant changes in treatment for nearly 30 years”.
Vulnerable people falling prey to cancer treatment quackery concerns me, so I urge you, if someone on social media is serving up the perfect solution to your cancer problem, please know that it's ok to ask questions, and I encourage you to be curious and critically evaluate data to make the most informed decision you can.
