From Fear to Peace of Mind: Lawson’s Journey 💙
For Crystal and Aaron, April 2024 brought a challenge no parent is ever prepared for: their three-year-old son, Lawson, was diagnosed with epilepsy. The fear of a nighttime seizure was so overwhelming that the family spent a year in what Crystal describes as "hell," with Lawson sleeping in his parents' bed just so they could monitor him.
Everything changed when they found the right support.
Through a collaborative effort between Epilepsy New Zealand and Te Wana Ltd, the family was able to trial the Alert-it Care Alarms Leicestershire “Companion” Epilepsy Alarm.
How it works:
A sensitive movement sensor pad is placed under the mattress.
It connects to a bedside unit that transmits alerts directly to a pager carried by the parents.
The system is so reliable that it even picks up the family cat, giving Crystal the reassurance that the sensors are always active and working.
The Result? Lawson is back in his own bed, and his parents finally have the confidence to sleep. Crystal says it feels like a "weight has been lifted" off her shoulders.
Securing the Future 🌟 Because the trial was such a success, Jonathan from Te Wana Ltd worked closely with Lawson’s to secure full permanent funding for the family.
This life-changing outcome was made possible by the incredible collaboration of the Roy Owen Dixey Charitable Trust, Epilepsy New Zealand, and Te Wana Ltd.
As the family puts it: "It does its job."
