When the alarm goes off tomorrow morning, don't hit the snooze bar. Start your day off a half hour earlier. Remember that old proverb, "The early bird catches the worm?" Smile up at the ceiling and rejoice in your new day of adventure. Life is full of possibilities. Change is possible. Remember, this is the first day of the rest of your life!

A sleeping cat cannot catch a rat!

As of Monday 17th November we will be implementing the following regarding client appointments. This is to enable us to see the motivated clients and to reduce our wait list for appointments.

First Appointments will be made by admin team.
Referrer or Probation Officer will be notified. We will require the Probation Officer to confirm the appointment with the client and then email us to advise if appointment is confirmed.
If the client does not attend. We will not follow-up to make a second appointment. The responsibility will be put on the client.
If the client does not attend due to illness, tangi, work commitments, could they please advise us in advance as this will ensure the appointment is re-scheduled.

Once a client has attended their first appointment the counsellor will make all ongoing appointments. If the client misses two appointments, either “Cancelled” or “Did Not Attend (DNA)” a five day letter will be sent by the counsellor. No response will enforce a discharge and file will be closed.

This will apply to all clients.

We are constantly bombarded by the media with reasons to be depressed but how we decide to react to the challenges of life is our choice.

It's the wise thing to do!

You cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from building nests in your hair.

TE MANAWA TAKI - REGIONAL WORKFORCE ADDICITONS SYMPOSIUM 🌿

Last Thursday, our team we had the privilege of attending the 2025 Te Manawa Taki - Regional Workforce Addictions Symposium hosted by a few workforces within and around the region
- REAL
- arc Counselling Services
- Link People
- Lifewise
- Te Whatu Ora
- Maanaki Ora

They created an event for us to connect with other services, continue learning and also listen to testimonials of real life experiences. Te Manawa Taki hosted speakers and groups such as Patrick "Paddy" Gower, Toi Matarua, Claire Aitken, Charlizza Matehe, Dave Letele and more.

We took a lot away from that day, but one thing we'd like to leave you with is that

"Greatness comes from struggle"

Not from handouts. Not from comfort.
From pain. From pressure. From pushing through when no one believes in you — not even yourself

You've got this! 🫡

Read a little bit more about Dave, and his story below 👇🏽

Dave Letele
"Having grown up with a father who was the president of the Mongrel Mob and in and out of prison throughout his childhood, Dave understands what it means to struggle.
It took Dave a near-death experience to pull him out of a downward spiral. From there, he embarked on a journey that led to him owning several businesses, playing rugby league all over the world, becoming a professional boxer, losing almost 100 kg in body weight, and starting over.

Dave is an inspiration to thousands of Kiwis, achieving his transformation purely through hard work and dedication. Starting his platform via his private Facebook group where over 10,000 people have achieved life-changing levels of weight loss, Dave went on to found his company Buttabean Motivation (BBM), where he and his team are currently working with public health and social service providers across Auckland to deliver his highly effective BBM programs to improve the health outcomes for obese people.

Nothing quite beats a real story straight from the heart, Dave will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions where you will come out the other side understanding the power of determination, perseverance, hard work, taking that first step and hope!"

It's Mental Health Awareness Week 🌿

This week, we take a moment to pause, reflect, and check in with ourselves and with those around us.

Mental health affects us all, and it’s okay to not be okay. Whether you’re taking time to rest, reaching out for support, or offering a listening ear, every small act of care makes a difference.

This year’s theme reminds us that connection is key and to top up together with people, places, and purpose. So reach out, have that kōrero, share a smile, or simply spend a quiet moment in nature.

FIVE WAYS TO WELLBEING
Connect - Me Whakawhanaungatanga
Give - Tukua
Be Active - Me kori tonu
Take notice - Me aro tonu
Keep learning - Me ako tonu

The Five Ways to Wellbeing, Ētahi ara e rima ki te ngākau ora, help people stay mentally well.

Little by little, day by day, what’s meant for you will always find its way.

Sometimes we forget that growth and healing don’t happen all at once. Be patient with yourself, trust the process, and know that the right people, opportunities, and moments will come at the right time.

So keep going, your journey is unfolding exactly as it should 🍃

Introducing: Systemic Family Constellation

We’re offering something new at arc - a gentle, supportive therapy option called Systemic Family Constellation.

This isn’t traditional counselling - it’s a unique process that helps explore the deeper patterns, emotional burdens, and relationship tensions that may be affecting your mental health, addiction recovery, or overall wellbeing.

If you’re currently engaged with arc or have worked with us in the past, you’re welcome to ask your counsellor if this might support your journey.
