✨Difference between a SHORT & TIGHT Muscle

A SHORT Muscle is the resting state of a muscle. This means the muscle is structurally shorter due to the Actin and Myosin filaments overlapping more. (These are what create the muscle contraction)

A TIGHT muscle does not refer to its resting state but its contractile state. This is referring to the lack/low contractile levels of the muscle not being able to contract and extend to its full ability.

A short muscle will not change its flexibility or elasticity quickly, it will take a long and consistent time to change. A tight muscle will see drastic changes in a short amount of time.

⚖️ Both of these can be improved and changed through muscle therapy.

TRAPEZIUS MUSCLE ✨

HUMAN 💁🏽‍♀️
Action of Trapezius muscle fibres

Upper fibres:
Elevation and Protraction of the scapula/ shoulder

Middle fibres:
Retraction the scapula

Lower fibres:
Depression of the scapula


ISSUES:
Lack of R.O.M (range of motion) in shoulders.
Stiffness and pain In the head, neck and In between scapulas. (shoulder blades)
May not be able to Elevate(shrug) or Abduct(raise) your arm.

Can give Intensie headaches/ Miagraines but with trigger point therapy work can be corrected.

HORSE🐴
Action of Trapezius muscle fibres

Cervical fibres:
Protracts and Elevates the scapula (extend and forward pull on scapula)

Thoracic fibres:
Retracts and Depresses the scapula (upward and backward pull on scapula)

Works with other muscles to move the shoulder joint to extend and flex.
When the forelimbs are bearing weight the traps also extend the head.

ISSUES:
Loss of stride R.O.M
Lack of movement/freedom in shoulders.
Sensitive around wither.
Lack of scapula/shoulder control.
Can cause horse to have abnormal, asymmetrical gate patterns or lameness
