Out Of The Box Families helping families..... WHO OPERATES THIS SERVICE? Mahurangi Community Trust (also known as Mahurangi Vineyard Church) which is based in Snells Beach.

The Church has been a part of the local community for over 25 years and has a congregation of approximately 200 people. We have a full time pastoral care team: Lyndon & Angela Reiff. A group of 7 volunteers coordinate Out of the Box. WHY DO WE PROVIDE THIS SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY? Food not only sustains it also connects people, removes isolation, reduces financial stress and encourages individuals and family units/relationships in a very practical way. This is a tangible way as a church and community at large we can support and encourage people who have hit rock bottom and don’t know where to go or in some cases what to do. WHAT ARE OUR POINTS OF DIFFERENCE? We operate on a nomination basis only. This ensures that we not only manage the resources we have well, but also ensures our generous parcels reach the right families. These parcels are substantially larger than other food parcel services: depending on the sizes of the families, the food parcel can be up to 5 full banana boxes. We aim to provide the catalyst that will reduce pressure on a larger scale, rather than providing just a stop gap measure. We have guidelines in place to ensure that families can only receive a certain number of food parcels over a period of 12 months, but ensure that they are referred to other agencies if their need is ongoing. We encourage those that put forward nominations to make the delivery, as they in most cases have the relationship. The recipients usually find their situation extremely humbling and appreciate their privacy being respected. WHERE DOES THE FOOD COME FROM? Local community who donate via the collection table outside New World
Mahurangi Vineyard Church members sponsor staple items and the church contributes towards items which do not have a sponsor. New World Warkworth generously donates credited items on a regular basis. HOW DOES THIS FOOD SERVICE OPERATE? Each year up to 40 families commit to donating a regular food item over 12 months (e.g toilet rolls, flour, honey etc) or make a regular donation to cover the costs of perishable items. (eg milk, cheese, fruit & vege, meat etc). Donated goods from all sources are collected and stored in a pantry within the church ‘factory’ building. Nominations are emailed to outoftheboxneed@gmail.com. The nominations list is prioritized weekly. Each Friday perishables are purchased and a ‘Full’ parcel is made up. Depending upon what has been donated, sometimes an additional ‘Extras’ parcels can also be put together. We do include a letter with each food parcel which acknowledges where the contributions have come from. Where possible, the nominators make the delivery to the family. WHAT SITUATIONS ARISE THAT REQUIRE A FOOD PARCEL? Situations vary but some are as follows:
· Illness/ Hospitalisation
· Redundancy/ Lack of work for self employed
· Marriage Breakups/ Death in family
· Single Parents struggling to make ends meet.
· Individuals fleeing violence.
· Crisis

WHERE DO THE NOMINATIONS COME FROM?
· Springboard Youth Community Trust
· Victim Support
· Police
· Waitemata Mental Health Unit – Nursing staff & counselors.
· CAP – Budgeting Service.
· Warkworth/Wellsford Budget Service Inc.
· Rodney Coast Midwifes/ Warkworth Birthing Unit
· Church members and members of the public looking out for those on need within our local community

Aioli

This could actually be my favourite recipe of all time; the holy grail of all things garlicky and creamy. Seriously, everyone goes nuts for it. I no longer use store-bought mayo – this stuff is inexpensive, lightning-fast to prepare and goes with just about anything. Smeared on sandwiches and burg...

WOW! This year we have packed 91 FULL boxes of fresh food and pantry items as well as 14 half boxes, to 105 families in the Mahurangi area.
Thanks so much to Savan's bakery, New World Warkworth and Snells Beach Fruit & Veges, for so much of the food donated every week of the year. You guys are amazing!!

Thanks too to every single local family who donates food/toiletries by either dropping it in the box at NW or by automatic payment. These small things can change lives so we really appreciate you

AMAZING response from everyone regarding the weekly giving of a an item for our box in NW. Thanks so much!
Only 3 items left that need providing each week!!

It's so easy to do. Just purchase the item each time you shop at New World, and donate in to the box under the noticeboard on your way out.
New World WW are already so so generous with giving us canned food and other items and it's so nice to see how grateful the families are who receive the food parcels.
If you would still like to donate something each week (or 4 times a month), here are the items we still need

Washing Powder
Peanut Butter
Marmite or Vegemite

PM me for more information or if you would like to help.
Jo :)

Hi Everyone, we are short of a few items to help 2-3 families a week who are in desperate need.

Is there anyone who would like to donate a grocery item every week?

The items can just be delivered in to the food box under the noticeboard in New World...so easy! You can either donate your specific item weekly or if it's easier, x4/month. The items we need donated are
Soap
Toothpaste
Shampoo
Washing Powder
Dishwashing Liquid
Cooking Oil
Peanut Butter
Cereal
Marmite or Vegemite
Tea
Pasta Sauce
Raisins
Crackers

If you can donate any of these weekly, please message me!
Thanks so so much!!

Are you looking for a way you can help in your local community but have no time?
Are you looking at families who struggle to put food on the table on a daily basis and wish you could help?
Do you sometimes feel so grateful that you never have to budget to the nearest 50c when you are in the supermarket??

If this is you then you can help more than you realise!! We are looking for people to donate $5-$10 per month as a monthly direct debit to help families in our local community. For most of us, that is just over 2 coffees a month! For lots of families, that would give them an evening meal for them and their children.

PLEASE if you can help us to reach more families in Mauhurangi, message us and I can put you down for either $10, $7 or even $5 a month. We desperately need a few more donations as at the moment we only have enough to help 1 family per week.

Thank you! From the Out of the Box team.

I think it's always nicer to give than receive and especially at Christmas.
This week we gave HUGE food parcels to 8 Adults and 15 children. Here is a photo of JUST the fresh perishable food. There were BOXES of pantry food and toiletries and LOADS of Christmas treats too.
Thanks so much to every single person who dropped something in our food box at New World and all others who donate money.

Merry Christmas to Everyone from the Out of the Box Team x

Hi everyone, we have a lot of really desperate families in need at the moment so if you are out shopping, please think of the families that find Christmas one of the hardest times of the year not one of the nicest.
A couple of extra things from each family in the community could make a massive difference to others. Think of things that might be nice for the Christmas and school
Holiday season.....extra fruit, raisins, biscuits, muesli bars, cereal, or even home baking.
Thanks so so much.
The Mahurangi Vineyard church is holding a special Christmas service THIS Sunday at 10am and the offering this Sunday will go directly to the food bank so that we can help a lot of families survive over Christmas.
Thanks so much for all your support this year and all your very generous donations.

We would really love to do something a bit special this Christmas for a few people who really need a boost. Any ideas??...
