Rodney Surgical is delighted to welcome Dr Madhu Koya – MBBS, FRCS, FRACS (Urology)

Mr Madhu Koya (Madhu) is a fully trained Auckland urologist and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Urology. He is also a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow in the UK from his time training in surgery in the United Kingdom.

He was extensively trained in general surgery in the UK, urology in New Zealand and is fellowship trained in the USA in urologic oncology under the internationally known and respected Professor Mark Soloway in Miami.

Madhu has a subspecialty interest in:

Urologic cancers – including prostate, bladder and kidney cancer
Madhu’s other interests include:

Stone disease
Urinary incontinence – both male and female
Urodynamics
Day stay treatment of stones (lithotripsy)
Vasectomy
Vasectomy reversals
Madhu is also Clinical Director of Urology at North Shore Hospital.

Rodney Surgical Centre attracts top Australian Oral & Maxillofacial Specialists

Dr PeterVickers and Dr Russell Vickers, two world class Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, who also happen to be brothers are the most recent additions to Rodney Surgical Centre ’s growing list of specialists.

Peter, who is the eldest, trained first in medicine and dentistry, and worked in a number of cities and regional centres in Australia, as well as Scotland, the United Kingdom and the United States. His training encompassed everything from craniofacial surgery and head and neck surgery to reconstructive, trauma, cosmetic and dental surgery, including implants. He also spent a good part of his time teaching at Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney.

As well as being an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr Russell Vicker is an internationally recognised expert in pain management, regenerative medicine and stem cell treatments. His research work is reflected in 78 scientific and medical publications.

Warm welcome and introduction to Dr Padmaja Koya MBBS, FRCOG, FRANZCOG

Rodney Surgical Centre is pleased to welcome Dr Padmaja Koya Gynaecology Specialist. She started consulting and operating from our Centre on 12.09.2022

Padmaja is a Gynaecologist with significant subspecialty training and experience in laparoscopic gynaecology. She completed her medical training in India and went on to England to train as a gynaecologist. She completed her gynaecology training in Leicester and was level 5 certified in gynaecological laparoscopy in the UK.

Having moved to New Zealand in 1998 and becoming a consultant gynaecologist in 1999, Padmaja worked for the Auckland District Health Board for five years and was leading laparoscopic gynaecologist. In addition, she was involved in training the senior registrars and fellows at National Women’s at Auckland City Hospital. Padmajaobtained her MRCOG in London in 1995, FRANZCOG in 1999 and was awarded the FRCOG in 2005.

She has particular skills and expertise in:

*Endometriosis
*Laparoscopic hysterectomy
*Hysteroscopic surgery
*Management of urinary incontinence
*SILS (Single incision laparoscopic surgery)

We are celebrating our 14th Anniversary

The Rodney Surgical Centre marked its 14th birthday with a gathering at the Warkworth Hotel. The growing list of specialists providing consulting and surgical services at the centre cover a range of medical disciplines from oral & maxillofacial, orthopaedic surgery, gynaecology, general surgery to urology, endoscopy, ophthalmology and skin clinics.

Rodney Surgical Centre is also a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider and works with various other private Health Insurers as well as ACC.

Dr Vickers originally hails from Sydney but has trained in Adelaide, Australia; the UK and USA. He is qualified in the fields of Medicine and Dentistry, specialising in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His surgery training encompassed craniofacial surgery, head and neck surgery, oral surgery, reconstructive surgery, trauma surgery, cosmetic surgery and dental surgery including dental implants.

Dr Vickers has undertaken extensive head and neck cancer surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery in Southeast Asia having worked in Malaysia for three years. He was an inaugural fellow of The Australian College of Cosmetic Surgery. In 1989 he pioneered free tissue transfer in the Australian National Capital with the first free, vascularised tissue transfer for tongue reconstruction.

Dr Vickers holds Fellowships in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, England and Australia and has a certificate of residency training from the examination board of the Louisiana State University, USA. He has extensive experience in gunshot wounds from his training in trauma surgery in New Orleans. Dr Vickers had undertaken teaching as Director of The Maxillofacial Unit at Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney, Australia from 2010 to 2017.

His recreational interests include golf and water sports. He enjoys camping and generally keeps fit by training for marathons having done the New York, London, Berlin, Paris and 3 mountain marathons in New Zealand. He has been awarded the Australian Defence Medal for military service.

Dr Vickers says:” I look forward to being part of the Rodney Surgical Centre team and working in partnership with the local doctors and dentists to provide high quality services to all of our mutual patients”.

Rodney Surgical Centre recently farewelled Dr David Crabb who is retiring and welcomed Dr Chris Powell on board.
We were privileged to have someone of Dr Crabb`s calibre. His recent focus has been the running of breast and skin cancer reconstructive service both in private and DHB public practice.
We would like to thank him for the exceptional patient services provision to our patients and wish him well in his European travels.

We are delighted to have Mr Chris Powell with us who is a UK trained plastic surgeon. He graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in the UK in 2001. He undertook his junior surgical and plastic surgical training in a number of London teaching hospitals before completing his senior plastic surgical training in Exeter and Bristol in Southwest England.

From 2015 to 2017 Chris completed higher specialist training fellowships in Hand and Wrist Surgery (St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia), Reconstructive Microsurgery (Leeds General Infirmary, UK) and Cosmetic Surgery (The London Clinic, UK)

He held consultant posts at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital in the UK for 4 years before coming to New Zealand in March 2021 and taking up a post as consultant plastic surgeon in Whangarei Hospital, Northland. He has spent a year working with David Crabb, mastering his fat transfer technique, and is now the principal surgeon at Northland Plastic Surgery.

Mr Powell is a keen teacher and has regularly been part of the invited faculty on national and international courses training the next generation of surgeons.

His Special Interests are:
* Hand and Wrist Surgery
* Skin Surgery (skin cancer, lumps and bumps, scar revision)
* Breast Surgery (including fat transfer, implant removal, augmentation and reduction)
* Cosmetic Surgery
