Final neuropsychological assessment in the South Island for 2025 - done and dusted! Gosh, where has this year gone?! And also, phew! What a year it's been!

It's been an honour and privilege working with such wonderful children and families.

I have a few more Autism and ADHD assessments in Whakatāne before I close my practice in early December for a much-needed summer holiday.

I will be back in full swing, hopefully sun-kissed, heart-full, and stoked, in mid-January, and am currently taking bookings for March and April 2026.

I've been reflecting on the Japanese concept of "Ikigai" and finding that oh-so-sweet spot combining:
~What you love
~What the world needs
~What you can be paid for
~What you're good at

And I feel fortunate to have found my Ikigai in my daily work as a Neuropsychologist, specifically in the type and balance of work I have chosen to do this year.

I love my work. I really do. And I feel grateful for the opportunity to do my work and make a small, positive difference in this world, knowing humbly that it is all a blessing from above ♡

Today, Autism New Zealand announces a Charter School for autistic and neurodivergent learns from years 9-13 in Wellington and Auckland. We believe that every autistic young person deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in ways specific to their needs.

Mainstream education does not always meet the unique needs of autistic learners, who can be particularly disengaged from school. Change of routine, sensory overload, social challenges, anxiety, and bullying/peer victimisation, contribute to high absence rates. A Charter School designed specifically for autistic students, however, can respond more effectively to those challenges.

Students’ days will follow a personalised plan built around their strengths, interests, and needs. Core education will be balanced with development of life skills and social-emotional learning. The school will utilise a mix of home-schooling, online learning, and community-based learning to help transition students back into the classroom for face-to-face learning.

A full week of doing neuropsychological assessments with awesome kids!

Flew to the southernmost city in New Zealand (Invercargill) on Monday, where I worked Tuesday and Wednesday. Then drove north through the beautiful mountains to Alexandra/Clyde for work on Thursday and Friday, followed by a lovely night in Queenstown.

Ready to head back to our coastal farm for a couple of weeks of loving, report writing, resting, and surfing.

All about the balance... And noticing and appreciating the lotus flowers amidst the mud and the sun amidst the clouds 🤍
