Nadis are channels through with energy travels. They are pathways of pranic, mental and spiritual currents, which form a matrix throughout the physical body. They provide energy to every cell, organ and through their vast network carry prana back and forth in every direction.
There are 72,000 Nadis, which regulate all the major and minor flows in the body. Three of which are the most significant – Ida, Pingala and Sushumna. These three major nadis are situated in the spinal column and pass through every chakra.
The Ida Nadi governed by the left nostril is responsible for all emotional responses. Ida reflects the characteristics of the moon and hence, controls the subconscious aspects of our mind.
The Pingala Nadi governed by the right nostril derives its nature from the sun and correlates with our sympathetic nervous system. It carries all the energy that is required for any activity, be it mental or physical.
The Sushumna Nadi runs through the middle of the seven chakras, with Kundalini at the base. This Nadi is all about awareness, righteousness, faith, and revelation. This channel is pure and forms the pathway to the realization of the inner consciousness.
With regular yoga, breath-work, meditation and time in nature we can keep our nadis purified and energized so energy can run freely through our system.
