BELOW IS A RESPONSE TO THE POST MADE BY MR. WEIN NIEL CONCERNING KUNDIAWA HOSPITAL MEDICAL WARDS DEATHS, WHICH WAS SHARED ON THE SIMBU NOTICE BOARD FACEBOOK PAGE.

While deaths in hospital wards are deeply tragic, they often result from severe illnesses, late presentation of patients, and limited resources, factors that are not unique to Kundiawa Hospital but are challenges faced by many health facilities across Papua New Guinea.

The staff at Kundiawa Hospital remain committed to serving the people of Simbu Province with dedication and professionalism, despite these constraints. It is important that public discussions about health services are conducted responsibly, with respect for the truth and for the hardworking men and women who provide care under difficult circumstances.

"CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH"

Cervical cancer is a major health issue 🌍, especially in Papua New Guinea, caused mainly by persistent HPV infection 🦠. Prevention is highly effective 💉 through HPV vaccination for young girls, regular Pap smears and HPV testing 🩺, and healthy lifestyle choices like avoiding smoking 🚬 and practicing safe s*x.

Because symptoms often appear late ⚠️, such as abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, or unusual discharge, screening is essential for early detection. Communities, families, and leaders 📢 must unite to spread awareness, encourage vaccination, and promote regular check-ups, while health workers continue educating villages and churches.

Cervical cancer is preventable and treatable when detected early. By combining vaccination 💉, screening 🩺, education 📚, and community support 🤝, We can protect mothers, sisters, and daughters 💙🎗️. For regular check-ups and more information, come to SiPHA clinics or the clinic nearest to you 🏥, together we can eliminate cervical cancer and give hope to future generations.

*Simbu PHA Officers Attend UNOPS Workshop in Port Moresby*

Four technical officers from the Simbu Provincial Health Authority (PHA) are participating in a United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) workshop in Port Moresby this week.

The program runs from Monday, December 1, to Friday, December 5, and is part of the World Bank’s Impact Health Project. The officers attending are Mr. Mathew Kom (Data), Mr. Junior Nukama (Monitoring & Evaluation Projects), Mr. Michael Bernard (Project), and Mr. Alexander Yule (IT).

The workshop provides technical inputs in infrastructure, project management, and IT innovations. The training is considered critical for implementing health-related infrastructure that meets international standards, is climate-resilient, ICT-based, and responsive to local needs.

On Tuesday, the CEO of Simbu PHA Dr Kassi Ken visited the workshop and acknowledged the World Bank’s Impact Health Project and UNOPS for hosting the training, which brings together four Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs) — East New Britain, Simbu, East Sepik, and Central. He emphasized that from now on, all decisions made to improve health facilities and health-related infrastructure will be evidence-based and supported by real-time data.

Simbu PHA has outlined major infrastructural developments for 2026, supported by its governing framework, including the Board’s Project Sub-committee, Project Management Unit, and oversight from central agencies’ Project Steering Committee. The UNOPS workshop is expected to complement these initiatives by ensuring projects align with appropriate requirements and global best practice.

🌍 WORLD AIDS DAY -1st December 🇵🇬

HIV/AIDS is a growing crisis in our country, with thousands of new infections every year. Every day, families are affected, and too many of our children are born with the virus. But together, we can change this.

🛡️ To keep ourselves safe and help end HIV/AIDS:

💍 Be faithful to one another in relationships to reduce the risk of infection.

🧪 Get tested regularly so you know your status.

✨ Practice safe s*x and always use protection.

👩‍👧 Support mothers by ensuring they have access to treatment to protect their babies.

🤝 Stand against stigma—show care and compassion to those living with HIV.

📢 Share knowledge with friends, family, and communities so everyone understands how to prevent infection.

💪 Ending HIV/AIDS in Papua New Guinea is possible if we all take responsibility for our health and support one another. Together, we can protect our families, our future, and our nation.
