Today, the conjoined infants are receiving round-the-clock specialist care in Paradise Private Hospital that is guarded closely by doctors, nurses, family and a nation that has rallied behind them.

Janet Sios and Dr. Robert Sios are co-founders of Paradise Private Hospital. Janet Sios, said, “We received the twins into our hospital earlier on this week, and we are looking after them. We have set up a team of specialized nurses in looking after Tom and Sawong and also the doctors, senior doctors that will look after the twins.”

Director for Manolos Aviation Ltd and Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) Foundation, Captain Jurgen Ruh said, “We want to flip the script on the saying as it goes... ‘beggars can’t be choosers’ and thrive to be choosers of what is medically urgent for the Tom and Sawong”.

A young mother from Indagen in Kabwum District of Morobe fought for her life on Thursday ( 13 Novenber) morning after suffering a severe postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), following the delivery of her baby being already dead.

In a critical and heroic response, the German helicopter DOKTABOI landed at the Katim Tasol Indagen Clinic to rescue the mother. The pilot made the life-saving decision to shut down the aircraft and wait for the first bag of blood transfusion to run before attempting the dangerous climb from 5,000 ft to 10,000 ft over the Sarawaket ranges en route to Lae.

As the medical team prepared the mother for evacuation, local villagers gathered at the clinic, offering garden vegetables to the crew as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation towards MAMA Foundation and Manolos Aviation for their continuous lifesaving support to remote communities.

A heartwarming act of kindness unfolded yesterday when Mrs. Roselyn Pasen, a long-term officer with Manolos Aviation who has served since 2013, together with her sister Stella, donated clothes for mothers and babies to Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) Foundation.

Mrs. Pasen described the donation as a way of “giving back to family,” reflecting the deep sense of connection and gratitude she feels toward the foundation’s life-saving work over the years.

She also took the opportunity to encourage people across Morobe Province to come forward and donate, especially as the Christmas season draws near and said, “it's a time to show love and care to those who need it most.”

An urgent medical evacuation request was received yesterday for a mother who gave birth 6:30am, yesterday from Awaya Village, located deep in the mountains of Menyamya District in Morobe Province.

The nearest health facility is located a full day’s walk away at Menyamya Station. Community members sought urgent help through the MAMA Foundation and Manolos Aviation network.

The medevac pickup site, located on a small mountain landing area in Awaya Village, was reported to have clear weather with light white clouds over the mountain top at the time of the call.

A 20-year-old first-time mother was approved for medical evacuation after developing arm prolapse complications during labor in Poiyu Village, Menyamya, on Saturday morning.
Arm prolapse complication is when the arm of the baby is trapped during labor, which increases fatal and maternity risks. The case was classified as a childbirth emergency.

Due to the village’s remote location, it would take an estimated five to six hours to reach Aseki Health Center by road, making air evacuation the most viable option.

A 30-year-old expectant mother was evacuated on Wednesday afternoon from Angkendang Village in Ward 5, Nawaeb District, after developing severe abdominal pain, weakness, and shortness of breath.

Situated on a steep mountain ridge, Angkendang Village is among the most isolated communities in Nawaeb District. There are no health workers in the area, and the nearest health facility, Boana Health Center, requires a full day walk, and the case requires immediate medical evacuation.

Dokta Boi helicopter was deployed under fine weather conditions, with clear blue skies across the Nawaeb ranges, on a mission to medevac the mother.

Tom and Sawong were born as conjoined twins on the 9th of October 2025.

They were born just 5 minutes walk away from the location where the first German Missionaries arrived on the 12th of July 1886 and brought Christianity to Papua New Guinea.

Tom and Sawong are today 29 days old and have the will to live. All they need for now is food and air. They are on supplementary oxygen as Tom has a heart defect.

Papua New Guinea is a developing nation facing significant development challenges.

Tom and Sawong are far away from the worlds best care to improve their health in preparation for final separation.

Whilst communications with a hospital in Germany is progressing well, we are running out of time.

Would anyone know anyone globally who can take on the twins swiftly?

We continue to reach out to hospitals and specialists globally in Asia, Europe, America, and beyond.
If the reader of this Mayday Call can assist or connect us to those who can, please act now.

This is not just a plea but a call for support, compassion, and action.

Let’s unite to give Tom and Sawong the chance they deserve.

Please contact us if you want to help Tom and Sawong through this journey...
