TYPHOON NANDO FURTHER INTENSIFIES WHILE MOVING NORTHWESTWARD OVER THE PHILIPPINE SEA.

The center of the eye of Typhoon NANDO was estimated based on all available data at 770 km East of Echague, Isabela (16.9ยฐN, 128.9ยฐE).

Maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 170 km/h, and central pressure of 970 hPa
โข Present Movement
Northwestward at 10 km/h
โข Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds
Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 580 km from the center

Heavy Rainfall Outlook
Refer to Weather Advisory No. 4 issued at 5:00 PM today for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Tropical Cyclone NANDO and the Southwest Monsoon.
Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
โข Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
The highest Wind Signal that may be hoisted throughout the passage of NANDO is Wind Signal No. 5.
The Southwest Monsoon and the trough of NANDO will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
โข Today (20 September): Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga
โข Tomorrow (21 September): Metro Manila, Central Luzon (areas not under wind signal), CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.
โข Monday (22 September): Central Luzon (areas not under wind signal), Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, SOCCSKSARGEN, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.
HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
A Gale Warning is in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon. Refer to Gale Warning No. 1 issued at 5:00 PM today.
24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
โข Up to 4.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, and Isabela
โข Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
Up to moderate to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
โข Up to 3.0 m: The northeastern seaboard of Aurora
โข Up to 2.5 m: The eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands, Albay, and Sorsogon; the remaining eastern seaboard of Aurora; the northern and eastern seaboards of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Northern Samar
โข Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Coastal Inundation
There is a high risk of life-threatening storm surge with peak heights exceeding 3.0 m within the next 72 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur. Refer to Storm Surge Warning No.2 issued at 2:00 PM today for the details.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
โข NANDO is forecast to move generally northwestward in the next 12 hours before turning west northwestward towards Extreme Northern Luzon. On the forecast track, the center of NANDO may pass close or may make landfall over Batanes or Babuyan Islands between Monday (22 September) afternoon or evening. It may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday (23 September) morning.
โข NANDO will continue to intensify while over the Philippine Sea. It may reach super typhoon category by Monday before its close approach to Batanes-Babuyan Islands.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
