May 1-3, 2024 | PCS-CAR Successfully Hosts the 50th PCS Midyear Convention

The Pcs Cordillera, in partnership with the Philippine College of Surgeons - PCS National Office and the Philippine Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons, Inc. (PATACSI), hosted the 50th PCS Midyear Convention at the Baguio Country Club from May 1-3, 2024. The event was attended by a staggering 1,279 participants which was higher than 900+ attendees for the past 2 years.

The event did not simply highlight colloquiums and sessions on interesting topics in the field of surgery, but has also been a fun-filled event for surgical missions, sports and leisure activities, and most-importantly fellowship among members and recognition of important contributions in the mile steps of the organization.

This video highlights the important events that have happened in the 3-day event. Information and pictures on the specific highlights of each day will follow.

March 7, 2024 | PCS-CAR and SLU-SHMC organized the 1st Interhospital Journal Club Presentation for 2024

With the theme "Current Updates on Neoadjuvant Therapy for Re**al Cancer", the PCS-CAR and SLU-SHMC hosted the 1st Installment of the Interhospital Journal Club Presentation at Paragon Hotel with meals provided by Fortune Hongkong Seafood Restaurant.

The event highlighted presentation of three journals centering on neoadjuvant therapy for re**al cancer with the aim of determining their application within the locality. The topics presented and the corresponding presenter are as follows:

1) Neodjuvant Chemoradiation versus Neoadjuvant FOLFOX Therapy with selective use of Chemoradiation followed by Total Mesore**al Excision for Locally Advance Re**al Cancer (LARC)-- Dr. Emerson Benedition (SLU-SHMC)
2) Total Neoadjuvant Therapy (TNT) versus Standard Chemotherapy for LARC-- Dr. Jeffrey Ginez (BGHMC)
3) Locoregional Failure during and after short course radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy and surgery versus long-course chemoradiotherapy and surgery-- Dr. Jayvee Dyne Dominguez (Consortium).

The Session was indeed productive and to keep the learning going, Pcs Cordillera, through its president Dr. Ma. Zsarin Tuason-Batcagan, MD, a commitment to provide sponsorship to the 4th installment of the Interhospital Journal Club Presentation at the end of the quarter of 2024 was made!

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for the Philippine College of Surgeons Cordillera Chapter BREATHE: An Intro to Yoga Retreat to be held on May 1, 2024 at Pranalaya Hub, Montinola Loop, Kisad, Baguio City.

KICKSTART YOGA: This Vinyasa Yoga class is designed for absolute beginners.
Learn the basic terms and asanas (poses) of Vinyasa Yoga as well as how to synchronize movement and breath. This class will help you develop and strengthen your foundation of yoga asana in order to prepare you for advanced poses.

VINYASA: Flow through a sequence of asana poses and synchronized breath work. The class is a dynamic and energetic form of yoga that seamlessly links movement and breath. A great way to jumpstart your stay in Baguio! Suitable for practitioners of various levels.

FLOW & RESTORE YOGA: Flow and Restore yoga is a fusion of Vinyasa and Restorative style. We’d first be stringing vinyasa poses to move and breathe together, building heat and strength in the body. Then the second half shifts to a slow-paced restorative yoga using props to maintain longer held poses that focus on rest, stillness, and deep breathing.🧘🏽‍♀️

All classes are beginner friendly. For yogis who want more advanced classes, we can arrange special classes for small groups or you can join the Hub’s regular schedule. Please email us for this special request.

The proceeds of the Yoga Classes will support the Cordillera Chapter’s various programs such as medical/surgical missions, educational programs for our surgeon trainees, community outreach programs, educational lay fora, and the like.

The proceeds of the tournament will support the Cordillera Chapter’s various programs such as medical/surgical missions, educational programs for our surgeon trainees, community outreach programs, educational lay fora, and the like.

Registration includes mulligan, snacks, and raffle stub. Golfers who register until April 20 will get a FREE shirt. Caddie and cart fees are not included in the registration fee.

PCS Cordillera, in cooperation with BGHMC Dept of Surgery, celebrated Women's Month with lay fora and free breast screening from March 4-8, 2024. A yotal of 6o females were screened and counselled on breast cancer screening. On March 10, Dr. Lydana Casuga, FPCS, guested on the local radio show Radio Totoo hosted by Dr. Benito Sunga, also a PCS Fellow. She talked about breast cancer screening and colore**al cancer screening.
