Here’s a moment that truly rounded off our event—the awarding of our art workshop winners!✨

The atmosphere was warm and supportive as winners received their certificates, marking the effort and creativity they poured into the workshop. Though the event centered on raising awareness about HIV and its stigma, this moment highlighted the value of unity, encouragement, and shared experiences within our community.

Shoutout to these artists and every attendee who chose courage over silence. This is how we rewrite HIV’s story—with brushes, boldness, and unshakable togetherness. 💛

Our fourth speaker, Mr. Jason Glina, shared an engaging talk on Visual Storytelling in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS. He showed us how photos, videos, and creative design can send powerful messages, raise awareness, and help break the stigma surrounding HIV. Through visual storytelling, we learned that a single image can educate, move emotions, and encourage people to understand rather than judge.

He also demonstrated how to use different art elements in expressing oneself. From an empty canvas, he created a very artistic artwork.

This session reminded us that art and media are not just for creativity—they are also tools for advocacy and change.

Our afternoon session featured Mr. Jopet Vincent B. Medalla (Sir Jopet) with his talk on Media Ethics and Effective Storytelling in Mitigating HIV Stigma on Social Media. He explained why stigma still exists today—because misinformation spreads fast, emotional reactions often overpower facts, and viral content can easily twist the truth. With algorithms shaping what we see online, we were reminded that we sometimes end up “creating our own version of reality.”

Sir Jopet also discussed the serious effects of stigma, such as fear of HIV testing and avoiding treatment due to judgment from others.
He emphasized important ethical principles in media:
Accuracy, Sensitivity, Privacy, Non-discrimination, and Empowerment.

Most of all, we were reminded that living with HIV is not the end of someone’s life—and being friends with a person living with HIV should never end a friendship. Social media should be a space for awareness, not harm.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our morning speakers, Mr. Timothy John Acuña Gobole and Ms. Alexandra Gonzaga, for sharing their time, expertise, and meaningful insights with us. Their discussions on the medical, social, and ethical sides of HIV gave us a clearer understanding of the issue and encouraged us to be more informed, open-minded, and compassionate.❤️

Thank you for helping us break myths, challenge stigma, and empower students through education.

Our second guest speaker, Ms. Alexandra Gonzaga, delivered a powerful talk on the social, ethical, and policy issues surrounding HIV stigma and discrimination in the Philippines. She explained the difference between s*x and gender expression, reminding us that we should never judge a person based on how they look, act, or identify.

Ma’am Alexandra highlighted how HIV stigma affects not only the LGBTQIA+ community but also men and women from all backgrounds, emphasizing that HIV is not limited to any one group. She also discussed the importance of laws and policies—such as proposed measures against discrimination—and reminded us that spreading false information about someone’s HIV status can have legal consequences.

Most importantly, she left us with a strong message:
“The key to HIV prevention is education.”

By learning the truth—such as how HIV is transmitted through blood and not saliva—we move closer to a more informed, accepting, and just society.

Our first guest speaker, Mr. Timothy John Acuña Gobole , guided us through an eye-opening discussion on HIV—from clearing up common misconceptions to explaining how the virus really affects the immune system, especially the CD4+ T cells. He also talked about how HIV is transmitted, the importance of safer s*xual practices, and why correct and consistent condom use can save lives.

In line with World AIDS Day (December 1), Sir Timothy reminded us that HIV is still a global issue, with millions affected worldwide, but there is hope through prevention, education, and continuous medical progress—including ongoing research from countries like Japan.

This talk encouraged us to stop believing myths, start sharing facts, and remember that everyone has a role in ending the HIV epidemic.

On December 1, 2025, the seminar-workshop entitled Experiencing Art and Health started at 8:20 AM with a color entrance by ROTC-SORSU BC, opening prayer, Philippine National Anthem, and SorSU Hymn — followed by a very meaningful opening remarks from our dearest Campus Director, Dr. Ma. Elena C. Demdam.

In her remarks, Dr. Demdam highlighted that Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3, 4, and 10 are integrated into the workshop, emphasizing that art and health can work hand in hand.🎨🩺

Empower with health, educate with purpose, uplift with equality.🤍
