Vertigo involves several nerves, particularly those related to balance and equilibrium. Key nerves include:

1. *Vestibular nerve*: A branch of the vestibulocochlear nerve (cranial nerve VIII), it transmits balance and spatial orientation signals from the inner ear.

2. *Cochlear nerve*: Also part of the vestibulocochlear nerve, though more related to hearing, it can be indirectly affected in some vertigo cases.

3. *Facial nerve*: In some cases, conditions affecting the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) can contribute to vertigo symptoms.

The vestibular nerve is most directly linked to vertigo, as it plays a crucial role in maintaining balance. Issues with this nerve can lead to vertigo symptoms like spinning or dizziness.

This is an MRI scan of the lumbosacral spine (sagittal view).

🔎 The red arrow is pointing to a sacral region lesion, which looks like a Tarlov cyst (perineural cyst).

Here is the anatomy seen in this image:

Lumbar vertebrae (L1–L5): The rectangular bones stacked vertically in the upper part of the image.

Intervertebral discs: The dark spaces between the vertebrae that cushion and allow movement.

Spinal canal: The vertical canal behind the vertebrae, containing the spinal cord/cauda equina.

Sacrum (S1–S2 region): The triangular bone below the lumbar spine.

Cystic lesion (indicated by arrow): A rounded dark area at the sacral level, likely a Tarlov cyst, which is a fluid-filled sac involving a spinal nerve root.

👉 In summary: The arrow indicates a Tarlov cyst in the sacral region, near the nerve roots, seen in the MRI of the lumbosacral spine.
