𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻!

The holiday season is a time for joy, togetherness, and of course, delicious food! As we celebrate with our loved ones, let us make this season not just merry, but healthy too.

Here are DOST-FNRI’s simple yet powerful reminders to help us prepare a healthier holiday table:

🥗 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘀. Brighten your meals with colorful, flavorful, and nutrient-packed produce. Include local favorites like squash, malunggay, carrots, papaya, and bananas for a more nutritious and budget-friendly noche buena.

🍗 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀, such as fish, chicken, or trimmed pork and beef to reduce unhealthy fat intake while still keeping dishes satisfying.

✖️ 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀. Too much sodium and fat can increase the risk of hypertension and other lifestyle-related diseases, even during the holidays. Enjoy these foods in moderation and balance them with healthier options.

🥤 𝗢𝗽𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆-𝘁𝗼-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘀𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀. Fresh juices offer more vitamins and help reduce sugar intake, making your celebrations both refreshing and healthier.

🍳 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆. Wash hands and utensils thoroughly, cook food at the right temperature, and store leftovers properly to prevent foodborne illnesses.

A REMARKABLE BREAKTHROUGH FOR PGH 🙏🏻✨

The University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital has yet again achieved a milestone as they successfully conducted the first pediatric liver transplant performed in a government hospital. The said operation was completed to a nine-year old boy with biliary atresia.

Biliary atresia is a rare condition in infants where the bile ducts become scarred and blocked, preventing bile from draining into the intestine and leading to progressive liver damage. Standard management follows a stepwise approach: early diagnosis, timely Kasai procedure to restore bile flow, and, when liver disease progresses despite surgery, liver transplantation as the definitive life-saving option.

The project was supported by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released its first guideline on the use of GLP-1 therapies for treating obesity in adults. Obesity currently affects more than 1 billion people globally — a number projected to double by 2030, according to WHO. The organization defines obesity as having a BMI of 30 or higher in adults aged more than 19 years.

The new guideline recognizes that obesity is a chronic disease that should be treated with comprehensive and lifelong care. http://ms.spr.ly/6183tbk3R

Ang galing no? 💰📈

Kaya kailangan talaga nating mag-invest sa first 1,000 days, at siguraduhing magagamit nang wasto ang mga investments na ito!

HUMANITY VS. STARVATION

biologist discovered a groundbreaking process called , where cells “eat” their own damaged parts to survive when food is limited. His research showed that when the body lacks nutrients, cells recycle themselves to create energy and basic materials needed to keep us alive.

Ohsumi’s work earned him the 2016 in Physiology or Medicine and opened new paths in , from understanding disease to studying how cells handle stress. His findings explain how short periods of fasting can activate autophagy, helping the body clear viruses and bacteria — but they also highlight something deeper: what happens when is long-term, forced, and used as a weapon.

His discovery reminds us that while the body has ways to survive , deliberate starvation in conflict remains one of the most inhumane tactics in . | Amelia Clarissa de Luna Monasterial
