Today, we stand with the global community as we commemorate World AIDS Day. HIV cases continue to rise in Cebu City, with many new infections seen among young people ages 15–34. Now more than ever, awareness, prevention, and compassion matter.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄:

1. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱. HIV testing is 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 in many public health centers. Early detection saves lives.
2. 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝘅. Use condoms correctly and consistently. Unprotected s*x remains the leading cause of new cases.
3. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. PrEP is available for individuals at higher risk.
4. 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Protect yourself and others.
5. 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮. HIV is not transmitted by casual contact. Compassion and understanding keep our community safe.

DID YOU KNOW?
Breast cancer doesn’t only affect women — men can have it too. While it’s rare (about 1 in 700 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime), awareness is important because many cases in men are discovered late, when treatment becomes harder.

WHY MEN SHOULD CARE
Men have small amounts of breast tissue behind the ni**le. Cancer can start there and because men don’t usually check their chest area, lumps are often noticed too late.

WARNING SIGNS TO WATCH OUT FOR
If you’re a man, see a doctor right away if you notice:

1. A lump or swelling in your chest or underarm
2. Skin changes such as redness, scaling, or dimpling
3. Ni**le discharge or inversion (turning inward)
4. Even if it’s painless, get it checked.

COMMON RISK FACTORS

1. Family history of breast cancer (especially BRCA gene mutation)
2. Older age (most cases are diagnosed after age 60)
3. Hormone imbalance or high estrogen levels
4. Obesity, alcohol use, or prior chest radiation

WHAT YOU CAN DO
✔ Be aware of your own body — yes, men have breast tissue too.
✔ Report any unusual changes to a doctor immediately.
✔ Stay active, eat healthy, and limit alcohol.

REMEMBER:
Breast cancer doesn’t choose gender.

The CTU Main Medical Clinic, in collaboration with the Gender and Development (GAD) Office and the Cebu City Health Department, successfully conducted an onsite cervical screening today at the CTU Gymnasium Lobby.

This activity underscores the University’s continuing commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and women’s wellness within the CTU community. Through the use of the HPV DNA Test, participants were provided the opportunity to take proactive measures in safeguarding their reproductive health, emphasizing the importance of early detection in the prevention of cervical cancer.

The Medical Clinic extends its sincere appreciation to the partner offices, health professionals, and participants whose cooperation and support contributed to the success of this health initiative. Together, we continue to advance a culture of awareness, prevention, and empowerment toward a healthier CTU community.

This free screening uses the HPV DNA Test — a reliable method for early detection of cervical cancer.
