RHU Magsaysay Strengthens Community Nutrition: Preparing BNS for 2026 and OPT Plus
The Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Magsaysay conducted a meaningful meeting with our committed Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) as part of the preparation for the 2026 Nutrition Programs and the upcoming Operation Timbang Plus (OPT Plus).
Barangay Nutrition Scholars are the heart of community nutrition services. As frontliners at the barangay level, they play a crucial role in ensuring that children are properly weighed and measured, nutrition risks are identified early, and appropriate interventions are provided to families who need them most.
The meeting highlighted the important responsibilities of BNS, especially in preparation for OPT Plus, including:
✔️ Accurate weighing and height measurement of children
✔️ Proper recording and reporting of nutrition data
✔️ Identifying nutritionally at-risk children
✔️ Counseling parents and caregivers on proper nutrition
✔️ Supporting community-based nutrition programs and referrals
OPT Plus is more than data collection—it is a lifesaving activity that guides local leaders and health workers in planning effective nutrition programs. The accuracy, dedication, and integrity of our BNS ensure that no child is left unseen and no family is left behind.
As we prepare for 2026, the RHU emphasized teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning to strengthen nutrition services in every barangay. Through the dedication of our BNS, Magsaysay moves closer to achieving healthier children, empowered families, and stronger communities.
