🎶 In Perfect Harmony: Health & Movement in Tune! 🎶

The UP Sports Physical Therapy Clinic, in collaboration with doctors from the Performing Arts Medicine Advocates National Association of the Philippines (PAMANA PH) and the Philippine General Hospital Department of Rehabilitation Medicine (PGH DRM), took part in the Pre-Medical Screening Evaluation held at the UP College of Music (UPCMu) last September 9, 2025. The Dancers, Instrumentalists, Vocalists, and Actors (DIVA) Screening Protocol was utilized to evaluate the unique physical and performance demands experienced by performing artists.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jenny Yang, Dr. Seann Silangan and UPCMu for the invitation to partake in this endeavor. Screening dancers and students from various music programs was a valuable and enriching experience. It was both refreshing and inspiring to support the health and performance of artists in a setting where movement meets music.

✈️ Nothing beats Filipino hospitality 🇵🇭 and right now we are welcoming the Japanese delegates from International University of Health and Wellness (IUHW) and Fukuoka International University of Health and Welfare (FIUHW) 🇯🇵 to UP Diliman and UP SPTC. The UP SPTC team, along with their interns introduced common rehabilitation modalities, toured them around the College of Human Kinetics complex, taught them official UP cheers, and bonded with them by playing Filipino local games. The group was also joined by Ms. Aila Nica Bandong from UP Manila College of Allied Medical Professions.

We would like to thank all the UP Pep drummers who took the time to teach our Japanese visitors the Unibersidad ng Pilipinas cheers. And to our SPTC PT interns who discussed our work and role as physical therapists in ensuring the health of our student athletes here at UP Diliman.

It was an honor to have proudly chanted the cheers of the UP Fighting Maroons together. It was an honor to share this moment with them, truly reminding us that UP is a home of honor, excellence, and service. ♥️

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT: Annual Pre-Participation Medical & Sports Evaluation (PMSE)

To all student-athletes and coaches:

We will be conducting our Annual Pre-Participation Medical and Sports Evaluation (PMSE) on August 16&17, 2025 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at Varsity Training Center. This screening is mandatory for all student-athletes prior to participation in any team or school-sanctioned training and competition for the upcoming UAAP Season 88.

🔍 What to Expect:
• Medical Exam (e.g. Vitals, Anthropometric measurements, Medical PE and ECG)

• Orthopedic (e.g. MSK PE) and rehab assessment (e.g. MSK Ultrasound)
• Psychological screening
• Functional Testing
• S&C Fitness Testing
• Referral (e.g. labs/imaging, Physical therapy, S&C)

🧠 Optional Mental Health Screening:
As part of our commitment to holistic athlete care, we are again offering an optional psychological well-being screening. While this is not required, we highly encourage athletes to participate. This aims to support our student-athletes’ overall wellness and is conducted confidentially.

📢 To Our Coaches:
We also invite all team coaches to attend the screening. This will be an opportunity to receive a brief recap of Season 86&87 PMSE results, which may help guide training and performance planning for the season ahead.

Irasshaimase! Last September 6, we welcomed Japanese exchange students from the Fukuoka International University of Health and Welfare into our SPTC clinic. They were joined by Ms. Charlemaine Perez of UP Physical Therapy and Mr. Ichiro Matsuoka, lecturer from Department of Social Services and Healthcare Management of the IUHW. The SPTC team, along with our PT interns, showed them the facilities around the CHK complex to introduce them to the state of collegiate level sports physical therapy in the country.

The group is also grateful to have been joined by Associate Dean Norberto Madrigal and Sir Thomas Quiros from SP Department of UP College of Allied Medical Professions.

We also extend our gratitude to the following: UP Men’s Judo Team for their warm welcome, showcasing their UP Pep rally performance, UP Pep Drummers for teaching the IUHW students the Unibersidad ng Pilipinas cheer, sports science students who joined us during the tour: Stephanie, Roxanee, Janine; and Coach Edgar for letting the IUHW students observe his Judo class.
