Newground Events

Newground Events In 2007, it was the peak of the fraternity era of Dumaguete City and even in the Philippines. Fraternities were flourshing all over. How do we call them? No.

Newground Events is an Event Management company which strongly believes in delivering outstanding events that speak volumes about the client and by doing so invests time into making the event truly spectacular. One of which was the Interminably Undefiable Fraternity (IUF) founded by Kuya Dennis Caballero. Since 2000, IUF has been one of the forerunners of Dumaguete and the province in terms of events organizing. Perhaps, the only fraternity since then running huge events in the city and province. Events like Batttle of the Bands for Buglasan and for different towns were organized by IUF alone. Yet, all these events for IUF amazingly did not include known event organizers like Kuya Dennis (IUF founder and Silliman's Hibalag Booth Festival founder), Kuya Jake Lester Duhaylungsod (IUF 1st Grand President) and Kuya Filcarl Zhaile Francis Flores (IUF adviser and the first and only organizer who brought the NORSU Booth Festival to the Freedom Park grounds). All three were preoccupied with many other things during these years, like Kuya Dennis was working in Manila. The 3 together with IUF were the first to bring to Dumaguete City the band of them all, Parokya ni Edgar, in 2004, proving the 3's niche in events organizing and IUF as hallmark in events in Dumaguete. In 2007, the 3 planned a comeback! They wanted to continue the legacy of big events of IUF, this time spreaheaded by the 3. It was great timing because IUF Board of Director, Ruel Ratski Generoso, offered to the 3 that his brother in law, the founder of the local "Woodstock Music Festival", wanted to work with other organizers. Thus, the birth of WOODSTOCK III: Music and Skills Festival, which was staged at the Quezon Park for 3 nights! During daytime, sports and skills competition were staged, never ever gathered for one single event in Dumaguete, such as a National Freesbie Competition (freesbie became popular in Dumaguete because of IUF), Provincial Skimboarding Competition, Beach Vollebyall Tournament, Sand Castle Making, Body Painting, and Motorboat Racing. The festival became phenomenal. Breaking record sales for beers in Dumaguete as declared by main sponsor, San Miguel Corporation. The orgaizing team were largely composed of IUF members of the Dumaguete Founding Chapter plus neighboring town and city chapters. However, a few striking members were part of the team: student government leaders from different schools who were not IUF members! In a fraternity culture, it is very exclusive setup. So, there was a dilemma after the event on how to balance exclusivity and being sensitive to their great contribution. The year 2007 passed not settling the question of these event organizers. By 2008, this will be an exciting year. Newground Events was formally born with the The Sound3p Music Festival. This time IUF recognizing the need of more volunteer organizers outside the fraternity, they recruited and founded NEWGROUND EVENTS, with the tagline suggested by Kuya Jake, "WE DON'T JUST MAKE AN EVENT; WE CREATE A PHENOMENON." The name "newground" was found at Kuya Jake's home in a dictionary together with Kuya Dennis. Among its first members are Harry Banua-Go Alsula, former NORSU SG VP; Goody Alpeche, former SPUD SG Rep; Janix Rolon (now Mrs. Caballero); Olna Casimero, Joed Marice Zamora, Johanna Crystal Dawn Zamora, Cheryl Sumanoy and many others. All IUFs in that era especially the Board of Directors and Committee heads were declared part of NGE. And, the 3 were declared as the founders of NGE. It was indeed a phenomenal event! By 2009, the 3 plus now with IUF and NGE were brainstomring for another phenomenon! However, personal circumustances did not allow for any event that year. Also, Kuya Dennis and Janice got married.
2010 did not have any NGE event as well. Will this be the death of the great organization? In 2011, fate made sure Newground Events will continue on. The Youth AGENT for Development (YAD) Federation was on its 15th year already. They wanted to organize and Extreme Amazing Race all over the city. However, after several months of planning, no movement was achieved. Members did not know how to organize an event, except those members who had a background already into events like Kuya Dennis and GYL cofounders, Kuya Ronald Kinilitan and Ate Joed Zamora (who was a founding batch of NGE as well). They never gave up until they realized this was not working. Kuya Dennis suggested to other YADFed elders, Kuya Ronald, Ate Joed, and Ate Remeter Quibot Limbo, and to the body that he has an inactive organization, Newground Events, and would suggest we bring in members and expertise from NGE, as a third party organizer. Finally, they agreed! The rest is history! THE EXTREME AMAZING RACE is dubbed to be the most successful event ever of NGE. It is the single event of NGE in pedestal above all other phenomenal events for NGE. Part of the EXTREME AMAZING RACE's story is Jamesbryan Tubaga, who died. He was with GYL in Basay. Ever since, the success of NGE is coupled with GYL and vice versa, GYL and NGE honor to this day as the anniverary date of both organizations the birthdate of James Bryan Tubaga - November 22, in honor of the life he lived and offered for NGE and GYL. After 2011, many other events up to this day are being handled by NGE. Most of which are youth summits and camps together with GYL. There are several other events huge in nature spearheaded alone by NGE such as the Pambansang Muziklaban series, Paskilaban, Earth Day Jam, and many more. NGE had a brief reunion with mother organization, IUF, in 2012 and 2013, as members of GYL, NGE, and IUF became fluid members of the 3 organizations founded by Kuya Dennis. It was jokingly dubbed as the "Caballero Group of Companies." However, IUF had other priorities other than events so IUF trusted NGE leadership that it could stand alone already as a separate organization with its own set of Board of Officers. There is also an informal agreement with GYL that all GYL members by batch each year become automatic NGE members, recognizing the one heart about James Bryan and the importance of NGE in events such as camps and summit, which is th big bulk of events NGE is handling. GYL on the other hand recognizes the importance of the events organizing platform as something unique in a facilitating team experience. The NGE portfolio speaks for itself. NGE is an Event Management company which strongly believes in delivering outstanding events that speak volumes about the client and by doing so invests time into making the event truly spectacular. With years of experience in Event Management and credentials that include an enviable reputation, the founders, Rey Dennis Caballero, Jake Lester Duhaylungsod, and Filcarl Flores have managed and overseen countless successful concerts, conventions, corporate trips, product launching, charity challenges and team building exercises. Newground Events has cutting edge thought and creativity and a new outlook to the events industry with an โ€˜old schoolโ€™ head for planning, accounts and keeping the client always happy and number one. Today, November 22, we celebrate the life of James Bryan Tubaga, a young man whose extraordinary dedication to youth empowerment and tireless service continues to inspire generations. Born in 1990, Bryan lived a life of passion, courage, and compassion, touching everyone around him through his energy, creativity, and unwavering love for the youth. Even after his untimely passing on October 2, 2011, his spirit lives on, guiding both Gaba-an Youth Lead and Newground Events.

Bryanโ€™s laughter, joy, and unwavering belief in the potential of every young person were his gifts to the world. Those who knew him recall a young man who could light up a room, inspire others to dream bigger, and lead with both heart and conviction. One memory that forever marks GYLโ€™s history occurred in the early morning hours of October 2, 2011, just hours before Bryan tragically passed away. After celebrating the successful Tikang launching activity with friends and fellow youth leaders, the group gathered at the beach near Norman Amboโ€™s home. As the sun rose, painting the sky with warmth and hope, Bryan and the team joined hands in the middle of their circle and collectively shouted โ€œHABANGBUHAY!โ€โ€”a declaration of everlasting service and commitment. That sunrise, full of laughter, camaraderie, and hope, became etched in everyoneโ€™s hearts and inspired the beautiful tradition of โ€œHabangbuhayโ€ that continues to be the heartbeat of GYL.

The legacy of Bryan is not only in memories but in action. Every event organized, every youth empowered, every dream nurtured carries his spirit. He showed us that true service is measured not by years lived, but by the impact made, and that one life, no matter how short, can leave a flame that burns forever. โ€œHabangbuhayโ€ is our vow to himโ€”to continue his mission, to serve with love, and to ensure that his vision for the youth endures across generations.

Happy birthday in heaven, Bryan! Your courage, energy, and unwavering love for the youth guide every step we take. Your legacy is our inspiration, your life our compass, and your spirit our everlasting light. We continue to serve, we continue to dream, and your mission continuesโ€”Habangbuhay. โœจ๐Ÿ’›

After a successful program, they went to Ga-ga Beach Resort to relax and pack. Around 1:45 PM, while washing tupperwares along the shore, a massive wave swept Bryan far into the sea.

Chaos followed. Team members scrambled to get help, some running to the highway to call for rescue. Bryan was seen shouting โ€œTabang!โ€ and โ€œBro!โ€ multiple times. Rescuers arrived, ropes and buoys in hand, but the sea was unforgiving. Minutes passed as the team prayed and tried CPR. When the police finally carried Bryanโ€™s body to the highway, the heartbreaking reality sank in: he was gone. Every effort, every prayer, every plea reflected how deeply he was loved. ๐Ÿ’”

โค๏ธ Bryanโ€™s Passion for the Youth

Bryanโ€™s mission was always clear: the youth were his first love. Even while grieving the loss of his mother, he continued to inspire young people wherever he went. He led programs in NORSU Guihulngan and designed countless unfreezers, energizers, and activities for camps and seminars. Every initiative he touched carried his signature energy, creativity, and heart.

๐Ÿ The Extreme Amazing Race

One of Bryanโ€™s proudest contributions was the Dumaguete YADFed Extreme Amazing Race, a concept he envisioned and shaped with the team. Despite personal struggles, he returned to guide its ex*****on on September 17, his Kuya Dennisโ€™ birthday, ensuring it became the historic success it is remembered as. At his wake, Bryan wore the Extreme Amazing Race purple organizer shirt under his barongโ€”a symbol of his dedication and love for the youth.

๐Ÿซ‚ Bryan as Brother, Friend, and Inspiration

To those closest to him, Bryan was more than a leaderโ€”he was family. He called Kuya Dennis โ€œBro,โ€ offered guidance, and filled spaces with laughter and boundless energy. From waking up at 4 AM during training sessions to leading morning programs with joy, Bryanโ€™s unlimited spirit brought life to every moment. He was tireless, pure, and devoted, leaving an impact that words cannot fully describe.

๐ŸŒŸ Celebrating 18 Years of GYL & NGE in His Memory

This year marks the 18th anniversary of Gaba-an Youth Lead and Newground Events, both organizations rooted in Bryanโ€™s vision and passion. His spirit continues to guide our programs, inspire young leaders, and remind us that service and love for the youth are forever.

Happy birthday in heaven, Bryan. We love you, we miss you, and your legacy will continueโ€”Habangbuhay. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ”ฅโœจ
