Expanded Maternity Leave Law (RA 11210)

In observance of National Women’s Month 2026, the Philippine Statistics Authority – RSSO NCR highlights the Expanded Maternity Leave Law (Republic Act No. 11210), enacted in 2019 to strengthen maternity protection. The law provides 105 days of paid maternity leave for live childbirth (with an option to extend for 30 days without pay) and 60 days for miscarriage or emergency termination of pregnancy. It covers women in the public and private sectors, including those in the informal economy and voluntary SSS members, with up to seven (7) days transferable to the father or an alternate caregiver.

Globally, the first month of life remains the most vulnerable period for child survival, with 2.3 million newborn deaths recorded in 2022, according to the United Nations. Maternity leave supports essential newborn care and allows mothers sufficient time for recovery after childbirth.
