A three-day Youth Volunteer Formation Course (YVFC) brought together student organizations of Sultan Kudarat State UniversityโIsulan Campus for team-building activities and a disaster risk reduction seminar from February 6 to 8, 2026 at the campus gymnasium, spearheaded by the Red Cross YouthโIsulan Chapter.
The seminar-workshop opened with an orientation and presentation on the role of the Red Cross Youth, led by RCY-Isulan President Froilan Jay Martinez, who emphasized that RCY goes beyond first aid and emergency response, highlighting its mission of building resilience, unity, and disaster preparedness. His talk reflected the seminarโs theme, โBuilding a Safer and More Resilient Campus through Disaster Reduction and Preparedness.โ Martinez also introduced key speakers from the Disaster Management Services of Sultan Kudarat.
โ
โOn the second day, Sir Edwin Cabading, chapter representative and guest speaker from the Sultan Kudarat Disaster Management Services, discussed various types of disasters and calamities, corresponding countermeasures, and essential dos and donโts during emergency situations. This was followed by team-building activities designed to test participantsโ understanding of the concepts discussed.
โ
โIn the evening, RCY-Isulan facilitated a bonfire circle at the campus grounds. Campus Nurse Sir Mark Gregor Rapacon expressed his appreciation to the participants for their active involvement despite the short notice of the activity. The session concluded with an exchange of insights and reflections among participants, accompanied by a ribbon-tying activity symbolizing strengthened bonds among the student organizations of SKSU-Isulan.
โ
โThe final day featured additional lectures, interactive activities, and the awarding ceremony. Guest speaker Maโam Shiena Amor Montero opened her session with a dance circle activity, followed by a discussion on stress factors and stress management. She emphasized that panic and unmanaged stress during calamities often lead to poor decision-making, further complicating emergency situations. The seminar concluded with a practicum simulating real-life disaster scenarios, assessing participantsโ learning from the entire program.
โ
โThe distribution of certificates and tokens, along with the skills gained and relationships formed among volunteers, underscored the seminarโs success in advancing preparedness and fostering a safer and more resilient SKSU-Isulan campus.
