Health Information Dissemination was conducted at Barangay Sagkahan, Carigara, Leyte at 8:30 AM on January 29, 2026 (Thursday), focusing on Schistosomiasis Awareness and the observance of Mass Drug Administration (MDA) Month.

The activity aimed to educate community constituents on the prevention, control, and importance of participation in the Schistosomiasis program. This marked the first Health Promotion Activity initiated by the assigned HRH, Ms. Farah Mae Potazo, together with the HRH Program Focal Person, Ms. Joan Gonzales, in collaboration with Rural Health Midwife Ms. Resilia Dela Cruz and Ms. Ofelia Cabrera. The activity strengthened community awareness and encouraged active involvement in public health initiatives.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) joins the nation in observing Goiter Awareness Week 2026, an annual campaign aimed at increasing public awareness on Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) and promoting proper nutrition for optimal thyroid health.
Goiter is a preventable condition, primarily caused by inadequate iodine intake, yet it remains a public health concern affecting individuals across all ages. Left unaddressed, iodine deficiency can impair growth, development, and overall well-being.

This year, the NNC calls on individuals, families, communities, and local government units to take proactive action by ensuring adequate iodine intake through the use of iodized salt, consumption of a balanced diet, and regular health check-ups. Strengthening nutrition education and awareness is key to preventing goiter and other iodine deficiency–related disorders.

Together, let us work towards empowering every Filipino to protect their thyroid health and achieve overall wellness, as we support the shared vision of a healthier nation free from preventable nutrition-related conditions

The OPT Plus Orientation was successfully conducted on January 20, 2026 (Tuesday), 9:00 AM at the LGU Carigara, Liga Hall, with PNAO Ms. Melinda Mendoza as the resource speaker, joined by Mr. Jonathan G. Papiona, District Nutrition Program Coordinator, Mr. Lemar A. Mercader and the presence of DOH DMO IV Ms Roxanne Emping. The activity was attended by selected BNS and BHWs from the 49 barangays, together with nine (9) Rural Health Midwives, DOH HRH and other RHU Carigara staff, strengthening capacities in nutrition program implementation.

This was followed by the FHSIS DQC Reorientation on January 21, 2026 1:00PM at the LGU Roofdeck, attended by RHU staff, particularly the RHMs Ms. Nelita Naldo, Ms. Ofelia Cabrera, Ms. Chona Oledan-apilado, Ms. Lorna Pamanian, Ms. Resilia Dela Cruz #, Ms. Sarah Jane Novilla Ramos, Ms. Mylene Bardelos and Ms. VieMar-KobeKyrie Geraldo Onama with the presence of Ms. Gloria Labastida as Technical Manager, and MNAO Designate Ms. Maricel Pore, and Ms. Johanna Baliad of IM Consultant UNICEF as the resource speaker.

The Carigara Local Health Board (LHB) formally convened its first meeting for Calendar Year 2026 on January 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the LGU Mayor’s Office Conference Room.

The meeting was spearheaded by the Hon. Municipal Mayor Eduardo T. Ong Jr., together with Sangguniang Bayan Members Hon. Joenlee Larraga and Hon. Vilma Domus. Key officials and representatives in attendance included Municipal Health Officer Dr. Ma. Bella Profetana, Medical Officer III Dr. Ligaya Marquez, Municipal Administrator Atty. Leo Pruel, MSWDO Ms. Evelyn Granados, MPDC Mr. Darry Bodo, Carigara District Hospital Representative Ms. Hilda Ponferada, DILG MLGOO Ms. Shonalle Daganio Ballon & Ms. Cosette Vallejera, BHW Coordinator Ms. Nelita Naldo, BHW Federation President Ms. Glenda Davocol, representatives from the Municipal Engineering Office, and DOH DMO IV Ms. Roxanne Emping who presented the necessary DOH Health System Resilience Project (HSRP) documentary requirements.

The meeting marked the official start of collaborative planning and policy direction for the municipality’s health programs and services for the year 2026.

In line with the celebration of the 455th Carigara Founding Anniversary, the Municipality of Carigara successfully conducted its First Bloodletting Activity in partnership with the EVMC Blood Bank on January 19, 2026 (Monday) at the Brgy. Baybay Covered Court.

The activity resulted in 67 successful blood donors, reflecting the community’s strong spirit of volunteerism and commitment to saving lives. The event was graced by the presence of the Municipal Bloodletting Coordinator, Ms. Maricel Pore, and DOH DMO IV Ms. Roxanne Emping, who assisted in the donor interview and screening process. The success of the activity was further strengthened by the active participation and support of the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), who played a vital role in mobilizing donors and ensuring the smooth flow of the activity.
