𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐨 𝐁𝐚?
Ang Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) at Type 2 Diabetes ay magkaugnay — hindi lang sa pangalan, kundi pati sa epekto sa kalusugan ng kababaihan! Ang GDM ay nangyayari sa pagbubuntis kapag hindi sapat ang insulin ng katawan, kaya tumataas ang blood sugar. Ang Type 2 Diabetes naman ay kapag nagiging resistant o kulang ang insulin ng katawan sa pag-control ng blood sugar.

Sa mga larawang ito, makikita ang mga IRH site monitors katuwang ang mga Barangay health workers habang nagsasagawa ng follow-up at monitoring sa mga nanay na nagkaroon ng GDM, 6–12 weeks matapos manganak. 1 sa bawat 2 nanay na nagkaroon ng GDM ay maaaring magkaroon ng Type 2 Diabetes sa loob ng 5–10 years pagkatapos manganak. Kaya mahalaga ang regular na follow-up, tamang pagkain, at aktibong pamumuhay — kahit tapos na ang pagbubuntis! Isang hakbang ito tungo sa mas malusog na kinabukasan para sa mga kababaihan!

𝐈𝐑𝐇@𝟐𝟓: 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬

One of the highlights of our 25th Anniversary celebration was the Panel Interview with our long-time program partners — champions who have worked hand-in-hand with IRH to advance responsible parenthood, youth education, and maternal health in the Philippines.

The session was expertly moderated by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐦𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 — a pioneering IRH Field Specialist for Simplified NFP Projects (2001–2004) under the Georgetown University partnership. Today, she continues to lead with purpose as a respected Leadership & Development Consultant, advocating for women empowerment, inclusive education, and organizational capacity strengthening.

She was joined by inspiring leaders whose collaboration with IRH has shaped real and lasting impact:

𝐌𝐫. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥 - Executive Director, Responsible Parenthood & All-Natural Family Planning Network (RP-NFP). As one of IRH’s earliest program partners, he helped expand Natural Family Planning initiatives nationwide — promoting stronger Filipino families through informed and values-based decision-making.

𝐌𝐬. 𝐑𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐚 “𝐀𝐰𝐞𝐞” 𝐇𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐚 - Director, Global Citizenship Education Cooperation Centre – Philippine Normal University. A dedicated educator and IRH youth development partner, she co-developed upgraded teen sexuality modules to equip young people with responsible knowledge and empowered choices.

𝐃𝐫𝐚. 𝐄𝐦𝐦𝐚 𝐑𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐮𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐬 - Assistant Department Head, Pasig City Health Office.
A pioneering health leader in the GDM Phase 1 Project, she led efforts to institutionalize diabetes-in-pregnancy care within Pasig City — strengthening maternal health for thousands of Filipino families.

𝗠𝘀. 𝗡𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗼 - Midwife, Gulod Health Center, Novaliches, Quezon City. One of the pioneer midwife collaborators in GDM1 and GDM2 project in Gulod HC, Novaliches, QC — ensuring compassionate, accessible, and coordinated care for expectant mothers at the grassroots level.

Through this conversation, we reflected on challenges, celebrated success stories, and envisioned what lies ahead — including stronger policy influence, aligned partnerships, and accessible reproductive health services for all.

During the IRH@25 Anniversary Celebration, Prof. Xavier Alpasa delivered a powerful keynote message that resonated deeply with our mission and our partners. He reminded us that meaningful change does not happen in isolation — it happens when communities, organizations, and individuals unite with a shared purpose. True impact, he emphasized, is strengthened by collaboration built on trust, compassion, and a commitment to serve those most in need.

Prof. Alpasa highlighted how partnerships grounded in evidence, innovation, and empathy can create lasting improvements in health and well-being. His message challenged us to always look beyond programs and outputs, and instead focus on the human lives transformed through our collective efforts. It was both a celebration of what has been achieved and a call to courage — to keep pushing forward, to keep strengthening alliances, and to keep shaping a better future for Filipino families.

For the past twenty-five years, the Institute for Reproductive Health (IRH) has walked alongside communities, partners, and advocates in advancing responsible parenthood, reproductive health, and the well-being of Filipino families.

This celebration marked more than a milestone —
it honored a shared journey of perseverance, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to service. Throughout two and a half decades, IRH has supported families in making informed and empowered decisions, strengthened health systems and community engagement, pioneered innovative models of care such as the GDM and NFP initiatives, built strong partnerships grounded in shared values and mutual respect, and helped shape a future where every mother, child, and family can thrive.

During our 25th Anniversary Celebration, we relived IRH’s achievements despite the challenges through the years — honoring the milestones, faces, and stories that have shaped our journey — while also looking ahead to the path before us. The program featured a meaningful keynote address on impactful NGO partnerships, inspiring insights from panel interviewees and collaborators, the launch of the new publication "A Baby Now? Not Now? Not Ever??", recognition of partners and champions who continue to advance the mission, and a renewed commitment to strengthening the future of reproductive health and family well-being in the Philippines.

On October 15, 2025, the IRH team convened 19 committed healthcare providers at The Gallery, Gateway Mall, Cubao for the GDM Project Assessment and Tele-Reporting Orientation.

With 19 dedicated participants—including 5 Medical Doctors, 3 Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians, 10 Midwives, and 1 City Health Worker—this session focused on reviewing project progress and refining digital reporting systems for improved coordination and care.

Through teamwork and shared commitment, we continue to strengthen GDM Care services in Quezon City. 💙

💖𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐬, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬 💖

On September 4, 2025, the IRH GDM2–Quezon City team gathered 19 mothers for a GDM Postpartum Session held at the Arsenia J. Maximo Super Health Center (AJM SHC) — serving the barangays of Sta. Monica, San Agustin, and Novaliches Proper.

This session provided continuous care and support for mothers with a history of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) — ensuring they receive the guidance and information they need for a healthier, diabetes-free future.

Together with local health workers, IRH and WDF remain committed to empowering mothers through education, early screening, and sustainable health practices.
