PRC Celebrates Philippine Optometry Week

MANILA, PHILIPPINES—The Professional Regulation Commission and the Professional Regulatory Board of Optometry (PRB-OPT) join the nation in celebrating the 2025 “Philippine Optometry Week”.

This is pursuant to Proclamation No. 985 (s.1997) declaring June 1-7 as Philippine Optometry Week to ensure continuous recognition of the vital role of optometrists as primary providers of eye health care services and as frontliners in the prevention of blindness.

Kudos to the Filipino Optometrists!

Dry eye syndrome or dry eye disease is a very common condition, not just in adults, but in kids as well. Most common is the evaporative type dry eye.

Symptoms: grittiness (foreign body sensation), excessive tearing, irritated eyes (mildly red/puffy), soreness, to name a few.

It can be caused by blockage of meibomian glands’ outlets (the gland that produce the oil component of our tears). The condition is called meibomian gland dysfunction.

To prevent this, do not direct vent of aircon or fan directly to your eyes or face for a long time. If you experience any of the symptoms of dry eye, consult your eye doctor.
