Here are some of the reasons why sitting all day could threaten your life
The damage caused by extended periods of sitting doesn't negate a good workout
- Even if working out is great for your health, it doesn't negate the damage done by a long period of sitting. The cure for too much sitting isn't more exercise!
Sitting and the Increased Chance of Obesity
- You burn on average 50 calories more per hour by standing. If you stand for 3 hours per day, five days per week, it adds up to 750 calories burned. So if you will think about it, by sitting, no calories could ever be burned. Plus, the fact that you might be grabbin' some food while sitting around all day!
Back, Neck, & Sciatica Pain
- If you have back or neck pain, you sit for hours per day, and you don’t have great posture. This could be the source of your problem.
Excessive Sitting and Cancer
- Several types of cancer are believed to be caused by inactivity. Though there are still no clear studies about this, scientists have found several biomarkers, such as a C-reactive protein present in higher levels in people who sit for long periods.
Cardiovascular Disease
- Studies showed that men who are more inactive or sitting most of the day have a 64% greater risk of dying from heart disease than those who are more active.
Sitting and Increased Rates of Type 2 Diabetes
- Studies showed that long extended periods of sitting with a reduced ability to regulate glucose in the bloodstream dramatically increases your chance of type 2 diabetes.
Excessive Sitting Shortens Your Lifespan
- With all the health risks mentioned, there is no doubt that your lifespan could be shortened!
