The liver works continuously—often without warning when something is wrong.

Responsible for metabolism, detoxification, and essential bodily functions, the liver is frequently overlooked until damage is advanced. This is why liver health deserves attention long before symptoms appear.

At I.E. Medica, we believe that protecting what works quietly requires awareness and respect. Supporting liver health is not just about treatment—it is about prevention, early care, and informed action.

Silence should never mean neglect.

On January 15, 2026, healthcare professionals gathered for the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO) Roundtable Discussion Series titled “Nourishing Collaboration: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Cancer Nutrition in Head & Neck and Gastrointestinal Oncology.”

The session brought together expert panelists Dr. Dennis Sacdalan, Dr. Cesar Vincent Villafuerte III, Dr. Jereel Aron Sahagun, and Dr. Anthony Dofitas, with Dr. Florge Francis Sy serving as moderator.

Held at the UP Manila Museum of a History of Ideas, the discussion highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary perspectives and professional dialogue in addressing complex aspects of cancer care, including nutrition in oncology practice.

At I.E. Medica, we value initiatives that encourage collaboration, continued learning, and thoughtful exchange among healthcare professionals because informed discussions are an essential part of responsible patient care.

Some of the most serious threats to liver health are the ones that remain undetected.

Undiagnosed conditions—such as chronic liver disease, viral infections, or rare metabolic disorders—can progress silently for years. Without early identification, opportunities for intervention may be missed until complications arise.

Liver Cancer Awareness Month reminds us of the importance of vigilance, regular screening, and early evaluation. Ethical healthcare is proactive, not reactive—and early awareness can change outcomes.

The liver absorbs the impact of everyday choices—often long before any symptoms appear.

Lifestyle and environmental factors such as diet, alcohol intake, metabolic health, stress, and exposure to toxins can quietly influence liver function over time. These cumulative effects play a significant role in the development of chronic liver disease and liver cancer.

This Liver Cancer Awareness Month, we focus on what often goes unnoticed: the long-term consequences of daily patterns. Prevention is rarely dramatic—it is built through consistency, awareness, and informed decisions.

A healthier future begins with understanding how today’s habits shape tomorrow’s outcomes.

Liver cancer rarely begins suddenly. More often, it is the result of long-term liver stress.

One commonly overlooked contributor is the improper or prolonged use of medications and supplements. Even widely used products can strain the liver when taken without guidance, combined unnecessarily, or used continuously without monitoring.

This Liver Cancer Awareness Month, we highlight the importance of responsible use and informed consultation. Ethical healthcare means recognizing that “common” does not always mean “risk-free.”

January marks Liver Cancer and Viral Hepatitis Awareness and Prevention Month, a timely reminder that some of the most serious health risks develop quietly.

Throughout the month, we will share conversations focused on liver health, hepatitis, and lesser-known risk factors that influence long-term outcomes. These topics matter because awareness enables prevention and prevention saves lives.

At I.E. Medica, education is part of our responsibility. By sharing relevant information, we aim to support healthcare professionals and communities in making informed choices.

Burnout among cancer caregivers is well-documented in research.
It affects sleep, memory, focus, immunity, and emotional stability.

In Filipino households, burnout is often hidden behind:
• “Kaya pa.”
• “Ako na lang.”
• “Ayoko magreklamo.”

But strain doesn’t disappear just because we avoid talking about it.

Being tired is a sign we’re human, not failures.

Not all caregiving moments look dramatic.
Most of them are small, quiet adjustments:

Rearranging pillows.
Checking breathing at 1 AM.
Preparing meds before the sun rises.
Cleaning up before anyone wakes.
Keeping fear in your chest so the patient doesn’t see it.

These moments matter, even if no one applauds them.

What’s one quiet part of caregiving only you notice?
